A UFO spotted during Queen Elizabeth’s jubilee festivities, a wild encounter between a zoo patron and an ornery orangutan, and a weird update on the Amarillo ‘dog man’ case were among the strange and unusual stories to cross our desk this past week.
An Indonesian man with dreams of becoming ‘internet famous’ wound up having his wish granted in what might be the worst possible way when a video of his harrowing encounter with an ornery orangutan went viral this week. Hoping to create exciting content for his Instagram account, Hasanal Arifin visited Kasang Kulim Zoo and began taunting the facility’s resident great ape. However, the powerful primate was not amused by the young man’s antics and promptly grabbed hold of his shirt, which spawned a terrifying tug of war. Arifin’s footage of the frightening showdown spread like wildfire on social media and the aspiring star quickly became an example of what not to do when visiting a zoo.
This past week saw several stories centered around the UFO phenomenon that wound up making major headlines, beginning with a rather peculiar object that was spotted soaring through the sky during television coverage of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee festivities. A clip of the puzzling moment quickly went viral with many wondering if some extraterrestrial guests had paid Her Majesty a visit during her big weekend. Later in the week, NASA announced that they are launching a special study group to investigate unidentified aerial phenomena and a new survey found that one-third of Americans believe that the legendary Roswell incident could have been a UFO crash.
An image of a mysterious creature that captivated the internet earlier this month wound up back in the news in a rather surprising way this past week when the city of Amarillo asked residents to help them identify the ‘dog man‘ seen in the widely shared photo. Remarkably, officials in the community confirmed that the picture had come from a security camera stationed at the Amarillo Zoo and conceded that they are stumped by the strange figure. Still scratching their heads over the eerie interloper, the city called upon people to submit their best guess for what the creature, which they dubbed an Unidentified Amarillo Object, could have been.
