Under pressure from Temu and Shein, Amazon launches a spring shopping event

Amazon is adding another big retail event to its calendar. This one, though, won’t require an Amazon Prime membership for shoppers to get the deals.

The retailer on Thursday announced what it’s calling the Big Spring Sale, which will see deals on seasonal items from fashion to lawn and garden goods. The event will kick off on March 20 at midnight Pacific time and run through March 25.

While a Prime membership isn’t required to get the deals, Prime members will have access to price reductions on some additional items, the company said.

This is the latest retail event in Amazon’s growing line as it looks to lure bargain-hungry shoppers. The original Prime Day has spawned other sales, such as fall’s Big Prime Day Deals and a beauty-focused sale as the holiday season approaches.

It also comes as competitors such as Temu and Shein boost their marketing budgets in the U.S., tempting customers who might previously have bought products from Amazon.

As it often does, Amazon is already offering some deals in advance of the official sale start date. Among the early discounts are:

Apple AirTag 4-pack – $79 (originally $99)

Rockland London Hardside Spinner Wheel Carry-on – $57 (originally $120)

Saker Mini Chain Saw – $40 (originally $80)

FireTV devices – up to 40% off, starting at $20

Walmart and Target, which often offer competing retail events, as yet have not announced plans for big spring sales beyond their usual seasonal discounts.
