A motorcyclist who may have passed through a ghost, a ‘toxic cat’ on the loose in Japan, and a mysterious monolith that appeared on a Welsh hillside were among the weird and wondrous stories to pop up on our radar this past week.
A pair of particularly perplexing and eerie pieces of footage crossed our desk this week and left us scratching our heads. First, in the Philippines, a motorcyclist cruising down a road in the wee hours of the morning seemingly struck a person who jumped into the road. However, as seen in a video filmed by a camera on his helmet, when he looked for the downed individual, they were nowhere to be found. Adding a chilling coda to the case, the man recalled feeling a gust of cold air at the point of collision, leading him to suspect that he had actually passed through a ghost. Meanwhile, in Mexico, a video of children playing hide-and-seek took an unsettling turn when what appeared to be a shadow figure with glowing eyes emerged behind one of the youngsters.
In something of a blast from the past, the mysterious monolith phenomenon made its return this past week when one of the peculiar pieces appeared on the side of a hill in Wales. Estimated to be around ten feet tall, the metallic pillar was discovered by jogger Richard Haynes, who stumbled upon the oddity over the weekend. How the object wound up on the hill is, of course, a mystery, though the runner noted that it appeared to be hollow and, as such, was probably brought to the site by a pair of pranksters. What will become of the monolith now is similarly uncertain as some local residents have expressed appreciation for the oddity, while others groused that it is an eyesore at the otherwise picturesque location.
This past week featured two truly strange tales reminiscent of hit Hollywood films, beginning with a wild caper wherein a dastardly duo allegedly took their friend’s dead body to the bank in order to withdraw money from his account. As one might imagine, the ill-advised Weekend at Bernie’s homage landed the pair behind bars once cops caught wind of the wicked scheme. Later in the week, Japanese officials cautioned residents about a cat that had fallen into a drum of dangerous chemicals at a metal plating factory and might now be roaming around a city. Akin to the origin story of the Toxic Avenger, it remains to be seen if the feisty feline will wind up becoming some kind of superpowered crime fighter.
