Google Maps sleuths think they've found a massive door in Antarctica – Metro.co.uk

NEWS… BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
For centuries, Antarctica’s unexplored barren landscapes have been a source for conspiracies, sometimes so far fetched that even Jules Verne would raise an eyebrow.
From a theory that Adolf Hitler survived after World War Two in a base under the ice, to another – credited to Flat Earthers – that Antarctica is a wall that surrounds the Earth.
Both have been debunked, but in the age of the Internet and social media, all is fair game.
Google Maps sleuths now believe they have discovered a ‘door’ in Antarctica.
A screenshot was posted on Reddit’s Conspiracy channel, which boasts some 2.1 million members.
It shows a glassy rectangular-shaped mass, partly buried under the layers of snow.
Users were quick to take a stab at what this supposed door could be used for.

Some suggested it was an underground entrance to a base camp, while others said it is a storage facility for seeds.
Whether jokes or legitimate theories – it was unclear as it never is on Reddit – but some said it was an entrance to Hitler’s hidden bunker.
According to the coordinates, it is just a few hundred meters from Japan’s Showa Station, a permanent research base on East Ongul Island in Queen Maud Land.
It comprises more than 60 separate buildings, including living quarters, a power plant, sewage treatment facility, observatory and satellite building.
Also present are fuel tanks, water storage, solar panels, a heliport, water retention dam, and radio transmitter.
For what it is worth, the image has racked up more than 100 comments in the last 10 hours since it was posted.
