'Loch Ness Monster' makes surprise appearance off Welsh coast – but there's a twist – The Mirror

Sarah Jane Bourke and her husband Mike couldn’t believe their eyes when they looked out on the Welsh coast and thought they saw the spectacle of the fabled creature in the mist
A couple out for a walk along the Welsh coastline believed they had spotted the notorious Loch Ness Monster swimming off the coast – but were in for a surprise.
Sarah Jane Bourke and her husband Mike were out for a walk when they saw a familiar shape in the sea. The questionable sight seemed to appear from nowhere – when in fact it had been caused by a log which was seen in the fog. Sarah said: “On a damp, dismal, misty afternoon, looking into the grey sea, we spotted a log just off shore, which had a long root sticking out.
"The weather was awful – though not when we started the walk – but you couldn’t miss seeing it when looking at the sea. The shape of it made it look just like the famous pictures of ‘Nessie’ – the Loch Ness Monster. We were amused because we both thought it looked like her.”
Sharing the photo online, Mrs Bourke who was walking in Porthcrawl, Mid Glamorgan, asked “what’s Nessie doing in Porthcawl?” and soon had the whole town wisecracking. One Joker commented “Nessie branching out" while another replied: “Hope the sighting was logged!”
A third person wrote: "Took a moment before I twigged.” Several people joked that she was on holiday, tempted by the town’s comparatively warm weather, its annual Elvis festival, or the promise of ice cream and fish and chips. One man wrote: “That's me doing the back stroke.” And someone else commented: “It wasn’t me – I can’t swim!”
But others thought the 'monster' looked more like a Viking longship coming ashore. “I've just seen Ragnar Lothbrok asking when are the bins being picked up,” wrote one person.
Sarah Jane wasn’t the only one to spot the resemblance to the fabled Scottish legend, normally seen closer to Inverness. One man added: “Seen this yesterday and thought exactly the same thing.” Another wrote: “Seen this coming across from Rest Bay this afternoon. Had to stop and make sure what I was seeing."
Sarah Jane, a retiree from Bridgend, Wales, hadn’t expected the post to get such a reaction. She said: “I was really surprised by how many people reacted. Ive been very amused by some of the comments and a little disappointed that a few seemed to think I didn’t already know it was a log.
“We knew it was a tree or log immediately – but I think some people didn’t realise my Facebook post was tongue in cheek.”
