A bizarre humanoid creature spotted atop a roof in Nigeria, a buried treasure from WWII that was found after 80 years, and a creepy Cookie Monster menacing a California city are among the weird and wondrous stories to cross our desk this past week.
A pair of particularly puzzling videos popped up in the news this past week, beginning with a very strange piece of footage from Nigeria wherein a weird figure that appears to be half human and half animal can be seen perched on a roof. The odd entity lingered on the building for long enough to draw a crowd of astonished onlookers who were left wondering what exactly they were seeing. Similarly, two separate witnesses in Canada captured footage of a dead bird that inexplicably hovered motionless in the sky over a street. How the creature, which appears to be dead, could stay afloat is a mystery that has left many people on social media guessing.
This past week featured two decidedly different tales of buried treasure. In Europe, a man managed to unearth a sizeable cache of riches that were hidden by his grandfather over 80 years ago when the Russian army were poised to overtake his property. The story of the stashed valuables was something of a family legend for decades until Jan Glazewski decided to pursue the mystery and ultimately discovered the precious heirlooms in their original hiding spot on the estate. Meanwhile, a team of treasure hunters in Pennsylvania continued their quest for answers to a contentious FBI dig for a legendary cache of lost Civil War-era gold which, they believe, the federal government found and subsequently kept secret.
By far the most bizarre story of the week came by way of California, where cops cautioned residents to avoid engaging with a man who was roaming the coastal community’s boardwalk while dressed as Cookie Monster. The Santa Cruz police department issued the word of warning following multiple reports from concerned individuals who were uncomfortable by the presence of the creepy character. Authorities indicated that the individual beneath the furry suit is somewhat infamous as he has a history of "troublesome behavior" in other cities and, as such, urged residents to "steer clear of him," perhaps in the hopes that he will grow bored with the lack of attention and move on to some other locale.
