A faux UFO ‘revealed’ by a Texas police department, a funeral home mummy set to be buried in Pennsylvania, and a million dollar prize for proof of ETs are among the weird and wondrous stories to cross our desk this past week.
A pair of decidedly different UFO videos popped up online this past week, beginning with a puzzling piece of footage out of Germany wherein a strange black triangular object was filmed floating over a city. Initially seeming to resemble some kind of glider, the anomaly maneuvered through the sky in such a way that the witness who spotted the object conceded that they were baffled by what it could have been. Meanwhile, a police department in Texas gave residents a good chuckle when took to social media with news that a UFO had been seen over the city. The elaborate post featured both a detailed press release about the ‘ET visitors’ and a series of videos featuring the ‘craft,’ which had clearly been digitally inserted into the footage.
In a clever campaign launched this past week, the home security company Ring announced that they will award a whopping $1 million to a lucky individual who somehow manages to capture evidence for aliens using one of their surveillance devices. Taking home the prize is something of a tall order as the rules state that the footage must show undeniable proof of an extraterrestrial visitation as judged by astrobiologist Dr. Jacob Haqq Misra. Making the million dollar challenge all the more difficult, the company also says that the video has to be recorded and submitted by November 3rd, leaving a rather small window of time for one to catch an ET on camera.
Perhaps the strangest story of the week came by way of Pennsylvania, where the remains of a mummified man are set to be laid to rest after being on display at a funeral home for a staggering 128 years. The individual at the center of the curious case, known only as Stoneman Willie, passed away in 1895 while awaiting trial for petty theft. His remains were then inadvertently mummified by a mortician trying to create a new formula for embalming fluid and, in turn, the incredibly well-preserved body of the mysterious stranger wound up being kept at the funeral home ever since. However, this coming weekend, Stoneman Willie will be buried during a ceremony in which his true identity will finally be revealed by researchers who managed to unearth his real name.
