People are only just realising they've been saying Chupa Chups wrong their whole lives – The Mirror

No matter how excited you were to have one of these lollies, chances are you’d never be able to open it – and now people are also realising they’ve been pronouncing them wrong too
They're a childhood staple – but how do you pronounce the famous lollipops?
Chupa Chups will bring all sorts of nostalgia to any adult, bringing them back to their childhood. Back then, they were known for their fun flavours and the packaging that made them almost impossible to ever wrap. However, people are now only just realising they've been pronouncing them wrong all this time as well as never being able to open them.
The lollies originate from Spain, and they're officially pronounced "Choops Choops" or "Chewpa Chewps", which comes as a surprise as people initially thought they were pronounced "Chupper Chupps."

It comes from the word "Chupar" which is pronounced "choo-par" and translates to "suck", and thanks to one Aussie TikToker who goes by the name Money Mitch, and has left people mind-blown.
"This is an emergency, I just found out that in other countries including Spain where the brand is actually from, it's pronounced 'Choopa Choops'," he said in his TikTok video, and added: "Not 'Chupper Chups', 'Choopa Choops' and that's not going to work for me."
It caused an outrage, as a fellow TikToker commented: "I could've gone the rest of my life not knowing that," while another added: "Yeah nah, I'm not doing that." A third penned: "I beg your FINEST pardon?" and a fourth said: "Why would you tell me this!! Nope. I am choosing to pretend I never saw this."
However many said they weren't going to change their pronunciation of the iconic lollies. Chupa Chup's then clarified it was pronounced "Chuppa Chupps/Chupper Chupps" in Australia, but stated there are "plenty of other pronunciations around the world"
Another fan jibed: "I can barely open the things – that in itself doesn't work for me," to which Mitch replied: "Sometimes they're sealed like a vault."
One Chupa Chups fan came through with another fun fact, not only are they impossible to open, but there's something fun about the design on the packaging. They claimed: "Fun fact Salvador Dali designed the logo for Chupa Chups." Now next time you see the iconic lollipops not only will you know how to correctly pronounce them, but know who designed their fun and colourful packaging.
