'Vanquish' squirrels from your garden with gardener's 'genius' trick which has people in stitches – The Mirror
A gardener was so fed up of pesky squirrels stealing all of the bird seed from the feeder – they came up with a genius and hilarious solution to the problem to banish the thieves
It can be frustrating when you constantly find yourself putting out bird feed – only to have pesky squirrels stealing it all.
Now one gardener has come up with a "genius" way to stop the hungry invaders in their garden, and people think it's hilarious. The individual was getting fed up with cunning thieves stealing all of the bird seeds and claiming they "vanquished" one naughty squirrel from their garden by cleverly using a toy slinky to confuse them.
The gardener took to Reddit to share a video of their cunning plan to stop the squirrel as they showed how they attached a slinky to the tree trunk. The squirrel then struggled to climb to the top of the tree and kept falling off the slinky before it could reach the top to get to the bird seeds so had just let it go.
People found it hilarious and called the idea "genius" as it effectively stopped the thieving squirrel without causing harm, according to The Express. The post then saw many others sharing their own struggles with nature and gardening as one Reddit user shared: "My Dad has been in a battle of wits with a squirrel for a couple of years now. He is yet to come out on top and has 3 broken bird feeders…"
Another jibed: "Another shared: "It'll just take a couple of days for him to twig that all he has to do is stand on the ground and gather down the spring until the tension bungees him right up to the feeder. Then you'll have yourself a squirrel thrill ride with a nut concession at the end of it."
Others suggested their own advice for stopping the squirrels, as one user wrote: "Spoke to a gentleman who'd been in a two-decade-long war with them, told me the easiest thing to do was just feed them separately on the other side of the garden, saved him so much grief and he always knows where they'll be if he wants to set up a chair and verbally abuse them."
A second chimed: "Just put chilli flakes in the bird seed. Birds can't taste it but squirrels can," and a third echoed: "Add some seeds from jalapeno peppers into the seed mix. A few mouth scorchings will train the little tree rat to stay away."
