Team of the week: Lewandowski, Isak and Madueke star

Every week, we will bring you the best performers across Europe’s top five leagues (English Premier League, German Bundesliga, Spanish LaLiga, French Ligue 1 and Italian Serie A) using the unique WhoScored ratings system.

The ratings are based on a comprehensive algorithm that uses Opta data during live matches, with more than 200 raw statistics, that gives us a single rating from 1-10 (1 being bad; 10 being excellent) weighted according to a player’s influence within a game.

Goalkeeper: Paulo Gazzaniga (Girona | LaLiga) – 8.86 rating

Gazzaniga put in an inspired shift between the sticks as Girona claimed a 2-0 win at Las Palmas on Saturday. The Argentine made a total of five saves, including a first-half penalty stop, in a clean-sheet attaining display.

Centre-back: David López (Girona | LaLiga) – 8.02 rating

The second Girona player in the side. López set the Blanquivermells ahead midway through the first half against Las Palmas, while four clearances and four tackles saw Girona leave Gran Canaria with three points in tow.

Centre-back: Yerson Mosquera (Villarreal | LaLiga) – 8.72 rating

Mosquera netted his first league goal of the season as Villarreal secured a routine 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano. Mosquera struck with his only effort on goal, while six tackles and five clearances ensured all the spoils for the Yellow Submarine.

Centre-back: Johan Vásquez (Genoa | Serie A) – 8.07 rating

Genoa guaranteed their Serie A spot for next season with a 3-0 victory over Cagliari on Monday night, with centre-back Vásquez solid at the back. The Mexican provided the assist for Morten Frendrup‘s 27th-minute strike, and went on to win four aerial duels, make four clearances, three tackles and two interceptions.

Right midfield: Noni Madueke (Chelsea | Premier League) – 8.71 rating

Madueke was directly involved in both Chelsea goals as the Blues came from behind to rescue a point at Aston Villa on Saturday night. Madueke struck with one of four shots before turning provider for Conor Gallagher with one of two key passes.

Central midfield: Antonín Barák (Fiorentina | Serie A) – 8.76 rating

Barák has only been involved in three league goals this season, two of which came in Sunday’s 5-1 thrashing of Sassuolo. Barák struck with one of five shots, hitting the woodwork with another, and provided an assist from one of two key passes.

Lewandowski seals hat trick with great free kick for Barca

Robert Lewandowski seals his first LaLiga hat trick with a spectacular free kick to put Barcelona up 4-2 vs. 10-man Valencia.

Central midfield: Kevin Stöger (VfL Bochum | Bundesliga) – 9.72 rating

Stöger netted his sixth and seventh league goals of the season as Bochum claimed all three points in an entertaining 3-2 win over TSG Hoffenheim, striking with two of six shots. The Austrian was unfortunate not to register an assist having made six key passes in the home success.

Central midfield: Morten Frendrup (Genoa | Serie A) – 8.91 rating

The second Genoa player in the side, Frendrup was directly involved in two of three goals against Cagliari. The Dane struck with his only shot and provided an assist with his only key pass, and excelled off the ball too, as he made six tackles.

Left midfield: Elbasan Rashani (Clermont Foot | Ligue 1) – 10.0 rating

Clermont Foot gave their survival hopes a huge boost with a massive 4-1 win over Stade de Reims. Winger Rashani was the star of the show, netting with both shots, all the while making five interceptions, three tackles and three dribbles in a fine showing.

Striker: Robert Lewandowski (Barcelona | LaLiga) – 9.89 rating

Barcelona made sure Real Madrid‘s title celebrations would stay on hold for a little while longer yet as they beat Valencia 4-2 on Monday night, with Lewandowski on hand to bag a second-half hat trick. The Poland international got the better of backup shotstopper Jaume Doménech with three of five shots to boost his chances of landing the Pichichi for LaLiga’s top goal scorer.

Striker: Alexander Isak (Newcastle United | Premier League) – 8.86 rating

Joining Lewandowski on the frontline, Isak scored for the seventh home game running as he netted twice in Newcastle’s 5-1 win over Sheffield United. The Swede got the better of Wes Foderingham with two of five shots and gave the Blades backline a torrid afternoon as he completed three dribbles and made two key passes.
