Couple's furious ironing board debate 'ruins their lives' and divides the internet – The Mirror

A couple’s debate over how their ironing board should be stored has ‘ruined their lives’ and divided people on Reddit – are you a pointy end upper or a pointy end downer?
A couple arguing over how best to store an ironing board turned to Reddit for help – and it "ruined" their lives.
The debate over how the ironing board should sit in the cupboard led to a series of updates from user Trousers of Time, who kept r/CasualUK users in the loop with an ongoing debate with their other half. Polling users on which way up the ironing board should go, the original poster was left claiming "a moral victory" rather than the popular answer.
They wrote: "When putting the ironing board away in the cupboard vertically, which way up is the correct way up?" It spawned a debate that saw hundreds of users chip in with their thoughts.
After a close poll, storing the ironing board with the pointy end down won. A total of 26 votes against 19 for the pointy end up were tallied by the increasingly irate Reddit user, who said the split has "ruined my life". They wrote: "Final results time! We have 26 for pointy end down, and 19 for up. As a pointy end upper, I hate you all, you've ruined my life, I'll never live this down etc. etc."
Despite losing the argument, the user claimed they had a "moral victory" and "the war will rumble on" with their partner as a result. Users spent hours weighing in on the best way to store the home product. One user received hundreds of upvotes after suggesting the board should be stored in a manner based on where the feet are "widest apart".
They wrote: "Whichever end has the feet widest apart goes at the bottom. For the stability, innit?" But another user claimed most boards had "the same width on both ends". Some Reddit commenters remained on the side of the original poster and continually claimed the pointy end should be at the top, with one adding: "The fact this is even up for discussion is insane."
Some even drew from "professional institutions" for the answer, which the original poster didn't like. A user wrote: "Iron stand at the top, because the feet extend past the pointy end so it stands on the feet. With the iron stand at the bottom, it’s resting on that stand instead of the feet. No as relevant, but that’s also the way it is in all the hotels I stop in." Trousers of Time replied: "Ooh, evidence from professional institutions! I don't like it."
