Peacock 'scavenging' at Burger King mocked as sign of 'pigeon gentrification' – The Mirror

Visitors to a Burger King in Wales have spotted a peacock scavenging outside on several occasions, with some joking the fancy-looking fowl is a sign of ‘gentrification’
A peacock scavenging for food outside a Burger King has left Brits baffled.
Seeing the huge bird outside the fast food restaurant was a surprise for Reddit users, but some say it is not the first time the peacock has been spotted in the area. Users joked the bird marked a sign of a "gentrified" high street, with the upscaling of new businesses seeing pigeons replaced with fancier fowl.
The Burger King in Bangor's Menai Shopping Centre, Wales, seemingly hosts the bird frequently enough for locals to have taken notice. Some regulars of the fast food chain joked the peacock had a "BK Rewards app" as it had appeared there so often. The original post on the r/Casual UK subreddit stated: "It's normally just pigeons scavenging outside Burger King."
One user joked: "Nice interpretation of the gentrification of the high street." Another added: "At least the pigeon put his best clothes on to go to Burger King". But Reddit users were not all won over by the peacock, as one commenter claimed they had been chased by one.
They wrote: "I have been chased by one of these once, I survived obviously, but it sure would have been a different result if I fought it, as they got talons almost as sharp as the brain of a Corgi is soft, so they got them dirks for talons."
But for some users, the humorous comparison between the peacock and pigeons went over their heads. One wrote: "Is everyone ignoring the fact that's a peacock and not a pigeon?"
Another user replied: "The joke is that it’s 'normally' just pigeons outside of Burger King yet this is an atypical violation of that expectation. It’s actually the number one definition of a joke, I think, which is a set up followed by a rupture of expected progression." And another added: "No, we're all 100% convinced this is a pigeon. A peacock you say? Sounds made up."
