Sources: Ange asks Spurs for at least 3 signings

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has asked the club for at least three new signings in the summer transfer window, sources have told ESPN.

The 58-year-old wants to continue his overhaul of the squad after Spurs finished fifth in his first season in charge, missing out on Champions League qualification by two points.

Sources say Postecoglou is realistic about the scale of change he can achieve in one window but Tottenham have a degree of headroom within the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, and the Australian coach is targeting a new striker and a central midfielder among the potential new additions.

It is unclear at this stage who Spurs’ preferred targets are but sources have told ESPN that the north London club are considering a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney and have been tracking Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher for several months.

Toney is expected to leave Brentford this summer, while Gallagher has a year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge and is reportedly also attracting interest from Aston Villa.

Postecoglou’s plans would be bolstered by any player sales with Spurs thought to be willing to listen to offers for a number of squad members including Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil.

Several players returning from loan spells including Djed Spence, Sergio Reguilón and Joe Rodon are also deemed surplus to requirements, while there is uncertainty over the futures of Ryan Sessegnon and Emerson Royal.

Sources say opinion is split within the club over whether to allow Richarlison to leave should a big-money offer arrive from Saudi Arabia as has been mooted in recent months.

Postecoglou and his team flew to Australia just hours after their final league game of the season to play a post-season friendly against Newcastle in the manager’s home city of Melbourne.
