Woman panics as her sourdough starter goes wrong and 'takes over her home' – The Mirror

A woman was left joking that her sourdough starter was a ‘national security threat’ after it ‘exploded out of a sealed jar in a matter of hours’ – and she didn’t know what to do
Sometimes, making your own food from scratch doesn't go exactly the way you'd want it to.
Using recipes you've never used before to make baked goods can be daunting – but often worth it, as there's nothing quite like the taste of fresh, homemade products. But one woman was left horrified when she tried to make a sourdough starter, and it seemed to go dramatically wrong.
For those who don't know, a sourdough starter is a living culture of wild yeast and lactic acid bacteria that is used to make bread rise. You make it by combining flour and water, and letting it ferment, and over time, the yeasts and bacteria that occur naturally in the environment and flour will feed on the mixture.
Social media user @ravenscimaven took to X, formerly Twitter, however, to explain that her sourdough starter had not gone the way she planned, as she desperately penned: "PLEASE HELP".
She wrote: "So um…Soooooooooo my sourdough starter exploded out of a sealed jar in a matter of hours what do I do??? It won't stop PLEASE HELP I’m afraid to open it and it's flowing out like crazy." This update came after an initial post on May 12, where she wrote: "I'm about to get into the dough starter game. Any tips are accepted."
She continued to stress out in the thread, penning: "Can I make the bread with it ????????", "I'm about to call the police", "This is a national security threat", "PLEASE QUICKLY SEND ME YOUR SOURDOUGH RECIPES THIS IS AN EMERGENCY", "I feel like this isn't the hobby for someone with anxiety issues", and then asking: "Can I feed it to my worm farm?" After Googling it, she realised she could.
Later, she said: "I'm about to pop this thing open I feel like I'm about to set off a GRENADE", then she joked: "Why did I get a phone call from an unknown number and I thought it was my sourdough starter calling me on the phone", followed by crying emojis.
She then hilariously penned: "Me saying 'daddy chill' to my sourdough starter to stop it from taking over my home and trespassing on my property", but then she updated people to share: "It immediately started yelling at me it's still going", as the starter can be seen leaking all over the countertop.
Rather than let it go to waste though, she made bread "at 1am", but she was "afraid tomorrow the dough is going to fill the entire kitchen."
Responding to her hilariously chaotic thread, one wrote: "I'm afraid the kitchen belongs to it now. Just shake hands with it and walk away. Brick up the kitchen door and be happy you have the rest of the house…for now." Another said it was the "best thread of the week".
