'My boyfriend only changes underwear at specific time – I don't know if it's weird' – The Mirror
After moving in with her boyfriend a woman has asked others for opinions on his underwear ritual, which sees him only change them once a day follwing a shower in the evening
A woman who has recently moved in with her boyfriend has sought advice from others – after discovering his "bizarre underwear routine".
Posting in Mumsnet's Am I Being Unreasonable forum, she described her beau's "strange" behaviour, referring to his habit of sleeping in his underwear and failing to change into a new pair of pants for the day ahead. "I recently moved in with BF [boyfriend]," the woman began.
"I have since discovered that he only changes his underwear after he showers in the evening and doesn’t replace them with a new pair each morning after sleeping in them. I think this is very strange and that each time you get dressed for the day you should change your underwear."
The woman then questioned whether or not others felt she was being unreasonable, after admitting it had been a considerable amount of time since she last lived with a partner.
"I don't understand showering in the evening only, can't imagine you'd feel very fresh the next morning and ready for the day," another woman penned in response. "Shower at night if I'm particularly grubby from the day but always, always shower in the morning with fresh underwear."
A second agreed: "The issue here imo isn't sleeping in underwear; it's wearing the same pair for 24 hours. That's what I'd find off-putting. I don't wear day clothes to bed, and equally I don't wear the same underwear in bed that I've been wearing all day; I change into a fresh pair."
And a third added: "Lots of red flags here. Time to have a good hard think about your relationship. You deserve so much better than this weird behaviour."
Others, meanwhile, defended the man's routine and explained that he still changes his underwear as often as the majority of their male partners – and there was therefore no issue. "How is he unclean for not changing his underwear again after putting clean boxers on after showering the night before?" quizzed one person. "Only on Mumsnet is this seen as unhygienic and weird. The man is showering EVERY evening and changing his boxers EVERY DAY.
A second concurred: "It is fairly standard behaviour. A man who showers every day and changes his underwear every day has a good hygienist routine."
Whilst a third user explained: "But he's still wearing his pants only for one day? They're not getting any more dirty because a portion of the time he's wearing them is spent asleep. It's also totally normal to shower at night rather than the morning. It's just a personal preference. There's nothing bizarre about this. There's also nothing bizarre about sleeping in pants – loads of people do."
Returning to her post after being inundated with replies, the woman thanked others for their thoughts, before concluding that she felt reassured. "Thanks all, was more just to get a feel as to whether this was a bit grotty or whether I’m being overly weirded out by it!" She said. "Not a deal-breaker either way he’s a good egg. Plus, as some of you have said, he is washing and changing every day and based off other threads I’ve seen here I should count my blessings for that!"
