Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 6/7: Weird Kickoffs, Top Draft Picks, and Ineffective Snark Generators – 247Sports
Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!
With Wednesday’s final OTA session open to the media fading in the rearview mirror, things will slow down a little through the weekend until Minicamp pops up again next Tuesday. In addition to our front page coverage yesterday, we had some highlights from OBR Weekly pop up on our videos page, and the audio from that show appeared on our podcast page. Today, we’ll have a story from Brad Stainbrook about his experience at the Stefanski Keepers event and more from Fred Greetham about Devin Bush, this Newswire and the usual array of surprises.
Make sure you swing by the OBR’s new YouTube page and subscribe to be alerted to all the new videos that will be populating it. We’ll crank up the volume there as we head into the 2024 season, so you’ll want to be ready!
Personally, I’m looking at my calendar, and I’ve got the day wide open with no meetings, so I’m pumped up about having the time to get things done with an eye to the 2024 season. You would think things would slow down behind the scenes during this time of year, but nope! Quite the opposite. After a slow off-season, we’re doubling down on what we think will be an amazing 2024 campaign by bringing in new staff to focus on increasing our subscription articles and video content. LFG!!
PFF ranks Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett as best No. 1 pick in last 10 years– (beaconjournal.com)
I remember going to Buffalo Wild Wings on Wednesdays to play trivia back in 2017 before the draft. Each team turned in a team name at the beginning. I would change the team name each week, and one week, I named my (solo) team “Myles Garrett No Matter What.” That’s how obvious I thought Garrett’s pick was to be the team’s top selection. Don’t screw around, Browns, just pick the sure thing.
And, lo and behold, the team actually did, landing the current defensive player of the year. He’s a guy who doesn’t always have the most glittering stats in the league, but teams have to scheme around him, and he dominates despite drawing the opponent’s best blockers week in and week out. PFF has noticed this and says that he was the best #1 pick in the last ten years. Better than Baker Mayfield even. So, the Browns did something right in the 2010s.
? BROWNS choose CONTINUITY in extending KEVIN STEFANSKI and ANDREW BERRY | Zero Blitz | Yahoo Sports – (youtube.com)
Everyone does YouTube videos. We recently had to reboot our YouTube page, so our videos are getting killed by the YouTube algorithm because we had to start over with subscribers (you can help fix that). Apparently, some folks at Yahoo felt it was important to comment on the Cleveland Browns extending Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry because, well, there weren’t enough YouTube videos out about that already. This one has a little tidbit right at the beginning from Charles Robinson, though, claiming that Berry’s deal was actually done last year. Sort of interesting, I guess, if Robinson is right.
Strung a few video clips of the new kickoff work together for you #Browns pic.twitter.com/dBEg8iOMKH
92.3 the Fan beat writer Daryl Ruiter did us all a solid by stitching together some video of the Browns practicing the new kickoff at OTAs the other day. This is going to take some getting used to. The benefit to the runner is obvious, as it’s simply impossible for tacklers to get up the same head of steam that they used to gather over 40 yards of sprinting. I’m not sure how I like this – I know it’s safer for sure – but it’s impossible to know how this will play out when executed by athletes of this caliber. I hope it doesn’t just turn out to be a situation where the kickoff is considered so risky that kickers boot it out of the end zone with regularity, leading us all back to where we were.
‘Not Looking At A Dome’: Cleveland officials say dome downtown not part of stadium talks – (fox8.com)
Where Will the Browns Play Next? Team Has Viable Stadium Options – (frontofficesports.com)
Fear not, Browns fans, the FOX 8 I-Team(!) is on the job, trying to figure out exactly what the hundreds of millions of dollars slated for renovations if the team stays downtown would entail. This is what we know based on their dumpster diving and running around with secret cameras:
“We are not looking at a dome on the lakefront stadium,” said Ahmed Abonamah, Cleveland’s Chief Financial Officer, who has taken part in the negotiations. “As a general matter, the renovations they have in mind are geared at enhancing the fan experience, and the entry, exit areas.”
Exciting! Let’s turn the place into the world’s largest Pilot Flying-J, complete with beef jerky museum. That’s a fan experience I would pay for. Seriously, I’m still not sure how that translates into all the money that the team wants for renovation. While we have depictions of Brook Park JimmyWorld, what the team is asking for downtown remains a mystery. It’s almost like their hearts aren’t in it.
Stefanski family’s commitment to Cleveland on display as Keepers Foundation debuts with youth camp – (brownszone.com)
Browns HC Kevin Stefanski, family hold flag football camp in first ‘Keepers Foundation’ event – (news5cleveland.com)
Coach Stefanski hosts youth summer camp at Cleveland Browns Stadium – (fox8.com)
This is nice: a flag football camp for kids “under the lights” at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The kiddos ran drills under the eyes of Stefanski, new OC Ken Dorsey and QB Deshaun Watson, who even tossed some passes to the youngsters.
It’s so nice I can’t even come up with a snarky remark about it. Stuff like this totally conflabbles my snark generator. It’s just too damn nice.
Have a good one! GO BROWNS!

Groom Surprises His Bride With a Penguin Ring Bearer on Their Wedding Day (WATCH) – (goodnewsnetwork.org)
This guy just started his marriage by setting up a penguin ring-bearer for his penguin-obsessed bride to walk down the aisle during their wedding ceremony. This is probably a good move and bodes well for their union. Surprising your wife on your wedding day with waddling aquatic waterfowl is always a winner.
Lacking penguins, I used my soon-to-be wife’s younger brother as the ring bearer. But that was a long time ago, and I was in the parking lot listening to the Browns-Jets playoff game until I had to go inside the church for the ceremony. We finished the ceremony and went to the reception in time to see the Browns return in double overtime to beat the Jets. We always felt it was a good omen for the marriage. Fourteen years later, I went into business with the quarterback of that team, and thirty-seven or so years later, here I am typing about it at 6:30 in the morning as I wrote about the Browns. This planet is strange.
