One-word Met Office tweet has people in stitches as account is 'under the weather' – The Mirror
The Met Office posted a strange one-word tweet, leading dozens to mock the weather service – but the forecaster has now shed a bit of light on the cryptic post
A strange tweet from the Met Office has left Twitter/X users in stitches as they try and figure out the reason for the post.
The weather service posted the word "tHANKS" on the platform yesterday evening, which had many scratching their heads. With no context for the post, the account was mocked relentlessly as users mimicked the lower caps of the first letter and full caps lock for the rest of the message.
One user wrote: "wHATS THE WEATHER LIKE TOMORROW?" Another added: "yOU'RE WELCOME". But others were upset by the post and could not work out what it meant.
One irate user fumed: "You guys got the forecast for Deal completely wrong today and are out here tweeting slop like this." Another wrote: "This is the most accurate weather report you've made all year tbh." While the Met Office has yet to clarify why it posted the tweet, it did shed some light on the odd message.
The forecaster wrote: "Oops, sorry about that! We must have been feeling under the weather…!". And people were quick to comment on the second tweet.
"Please don't apologize and do this more often, tHANKS!," one user joked. Another asked: "What was the ‘tHANKS’ for anyway?". While there is no official reply from the Met Office, or further information on the post, one reply joked: "The final day without rain (probably until next year)."
Others have praised the Met Office for their "graceful recovery" from the embarrassing social media mix up, with the weather service receiving praise for leaving the post up. "What a meme this has become," one wrote. A second user added: "Well played for not deleting it."
