Source: Forest in talks for Mexico int'l Giménez

Negotiations between Feyenoord and Nottingham Forest for Mexico international Santiago Giménez are currently ongoing, a source close to the talks confirms.

Though much is still left to be discussed, the forward could see a transfer to the Premier League before the English transfer window closes on Aug. 30.

Giménez joined the Eredivisie in July 2022 from Liga MX side Cruz Azul on a four-year contract and quickly made an impact. In his first season, the forward fought his way into the starting XI, accounting for 23 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions.

He inspired Feyenoord to the league title during his inaugural season, which propelled Giménez to earn his first Mexican national team call up under then-head coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino.

Overall, the player boasts four goals in 30 appearances for Mexico and an overwhelming 53 goals in 89 matches for Feyenoord.

Should Giménez complete the transfer, the fee would be split among Feyenoord and Cruz Azul after the Mexican side retained 30 percent of the player’s fee should he move.

“Until now [Cruz Azul has] 30 percent,” said the player’s father Santiago “Chaco” Giménez to ESPN in March 2023. “First he had 50, but then due to objectives achieved, passing Santiago of the 10 goals was already 20 percent more [for Feyenoord] and until now Cruz Azul maintains 30 percent.”

Forest are also reportedly interested in signing Arsenal figure Eddie Nketiah according to the Athletic, which would make a move for Giménez redundant.
