A woman left blind after believing she would save the world by ripping out her eyeballs has suffered another blow six years on.
Kaylee Muthart had thought the gristly act of self-mutilation – done during a meth-induced psychotic episode – would bring her “closer to God”.
She was just 20-years-old at the time and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and last year she spoke to the Daily Star about how different her life is now.

But despite making huge progress after permanently losing her sight, we can now reveal that Kaylee has lost her job.
The former straight-A student was washing dishes at a restaurant but she claimed on Facebook that her latest employer – The Rose Villa in Florida – axed her. For feeding a cat.
She said: “I just got fired for feeding a mother cat with eight kittens outside of my work after the people at the restaurant have been feeding her every single night, they abruptly stopped feeding her out of nowhere because of the property manager was telling them not to.
“I have asked them to see if they will wean her off of the food, but don’t know if that’s going to happen, it is likely that it is not. I just got fired for feeding the cat.”
Kaylee went on to say that she was looking for volunteers to take turns feeding the cat because of her visual impairment.
And speaking about her former employers in Ormond Beach, Florida, she added: “I am grateful to this restaurant for hiring me in the first place, but wrong is wrong and the mother cat counts on them to feed her and it is already hard enough nursing when you are pregnant trying to find a way to find a food source.”
One person replied: “I’m sorry you were fired for feeding a cat, it is unbelievable. Those people are completely without compassion.”
Another said: “Oh Kaylee I’m so sorry they fired you for having a kind heart. I hope someone is able to still feed her nearby. You are such an amazing soul.”
Kaylee lives in Florida with her boyfriend Alex George and the 26-year-old has shown remarkable resilience in recent years.
The recovering meth addict, who is originally from South Carolina, has been to blind school and had been finishing her high school diploma online so she could go to college to study neurobiology.
Braille is another skill she learned and she has mastered technologies to help her communicate too – while her biggest achievement was getting clean after going to rehab.
And giving an exclusive interview to the Daily Star, we asked her whether she contemplates what life would have look like if it wasn’t for that bleak day in 2018.
She told us: “That is the one thing I ponder a lot. I try not to think too deeply about it but I guess it does happen. I was probably thinking about that last night. But I guess when I open the window or crack the window for my cat in the morning, I wonder what it looks like out there.
“So when I open the window and stuff I think maybe God will help me see everything I have missed one day. I would like to see my loved ones get older, see what colour my cat is, I got him after I went blind.
“It’s like, imagine someone explaining to you what a character on a TV show looked like. They could tell you all the different attributes but until you look at them you will never know, you just won’t.
“Because I have seen before, my mind will not accept not seeing. They are called visual hallucinations and I kind of think of that as God not letting me be in the darkness.
“Even when you are blind it is not dark. I visualise like silhouettes of what I think is there. If I reach for it and it is incorrect it will change like that.
“It is weird to explain but I know what I am talking about because I have seen before. I get nervous trying to explain it because I think nobody will know what I am talking about given how I lost my sight.
“Will they think I am crazy?”
The Daily Star has contacted The Rose Villa restaurant in Florida for a response to claims made in this story.
