Unexploded device found at Sandy Hook, could be from WWI – Asbury Park Press
SANDY HOOK – An unexploded device was found Saturday afternoon at Sandy Hook and is suspected to be a part of history, authorities said.
Around 5 p.m., a visitor notified the park service’s 24-hour emergency call center about a suspected unexploded ordnance, Daphne Yun, a spokesperson for the park, said. The Naval Weapons Station at Earle was notified.
The object was removed around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at low tide, Tun said. The ordnance is suspected to be from WWI, but that has not been confirmed.
Yun said unexploded ordnances are not unusual at Sandy Hook. To keep everyone safe, the park service advises the 3Rs of explosives safety:
