Who won the swing states in 2024? Trump projected to take 3 battleground states

LATEST UPDATE 3:21 a.m. ET Wednesday, Nov. 6: Former President Donald Trump has been projected to win Pennsylvania, Georgia, and North Carolina, giving the Republican candidate critical battleground wins and all but clinching victory.

We’re still waiting on race calls for multiple other battleground states, but Trump is expected to win Alaska and that would give him the 270 votes needed to win the 2024 presidential election.

  • Arizona – Too close to call
  • GeorgiaTrump wins
  • Michigan – Too close to call
  • NebraskaTrump wins 3 out of 5 electoral votes, Harris wins 1
  • Nevada – Too close to call
  • North Carolina – Trump wins
  • PennsylvaniaTrump wins
  • Wisconsin – Too close to call

Harris’s campaign hoped to sweep the “blue wall” states of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Winning all three, as well as other usually Democratic-leaning states, combined with split electoral votes in Maine and Nebraska, would have landed Harris exactly 270 votes. Trump leaned on the Rust Belt and breaking through the “blue wall” to win Pennsylvania.

Experts say it may take days to tally all votes in these pivotal states, and Fortune will be updating our coverage until the election is finally called.

The swing state breakdown is below and you can find results for all 50 states here.

Arizona—Trump leading, 52% of precincts reporting

LATEST UPDATE: With 52% of precincts reporting in Arizona, Trump is currently in the lead. Trump holds 50% of the vote while Harris sits at 48%.

Electoral votes: 11

Why it matters: Arizona was a surprise win for Biden in 2020, marking only the second time a Democratic candidate has won the state in almost 70 years.

How it compares to polling before Election Day: According to polling from FiveThirtyEight, Trump led Harris in Arizona by slightly more than 2 points before Nov. 5.

Georgia—TRUMP WINS

LATEST UPDATE: The Associated Press has called Georgia for former President Trump in the state of Georgia with 94% of precincts reporting and Trump carrying 50.9% of the vote.

Electoral votes: 16

Why it matters: Georgia, a key state in both 2016 and 2020, flipped for Biden by a narrow margin in 2020. The state has been embroiled in legal battles ever since, with Trump facing ongoing legal challenges over his attempts to overturn the previous results.

How it compares to polling before Election Day: According to polling from FiveThirtyEight, Trump and Harris were neck-and-neck in Georgia, with Trump up by 1.5 points.

Michigan—Trump leading, 78% of precincts reporting

LATEST UPDATE: Polls have officially closed in Michigan and all eyes are on the swing state as results have started pouring in. As of this latest update, 78% of precincts in the state were reporting and Trump was leading Harris 52% to 45%.

Electoral votes: 15

Why it matters: Michigan, a traditional Democratic stronghold, swung to Trump in 2016 but returned to the Democratic column in 2020. This “blue wall” state remains critical for any winning strategy. GOP strategist Frank Luntz says to look directly at the city of Dearborn, Mich. as a sign whether Trump will win. He said “incredibly high turnout” would be “good news for Harris” indicating she’ll win the state. Otherwise, Trump is likely to take Michigan.

How it compares to polling before Election Day: According to polling from FiveThirtyEight, Harris just barely led Trump by 1 point in the state.

Nebraska—Trump wins 4 electoral votes, Harris wins 1

LATEST UPDATE: Nebraska has been called for former President Trump, with Trump claiming the popular vote and 4 electoral votes. Harris has also won 1 of the five electoral votes in the state.

Electoral votes: 5

Why it matters: While traditionally conservative, Nebraska splits its electoral votes by district. This split allows for the possibility of a single electoral vote swing if one district leans Democratic. The so-called “blue dot,” the 2nd Congressional district which includes Omaha, could give Harris a single electoral vote.

How it compares to polling before Election Day: According to polling from FiveThirtyEight, Trump led Harris statewide, but in the “blue dot” area specifically, Harris leads by 7 points.

Nevada—Trump leading, 81% reporting

LATEST UPDATE: Nevada has 81% of precincts reporting with Trump in the lead, carrying 51% of the vote while Harris sits at 46% of the vote.

Electoral votes: 6

Why it matters: Known for its reliability as a bellwether, Nevada has a history of predicting presidential outcomes. Both campaigns have made significant efforts to sway voters in this small but influential state.

How it compares to polling before Election Day: According to polling from FiveThirtyEight, Harris and Trump were tied in the state, each with 47 percent of the vote.

North Carolina—TRUMP WINS

LATEST UPDATE: The AP has declared Trump the winner of North Carolina, as he leads with 50.8% of the vote and more than 90% of precincts are reporting.

Electoral votes: 16

Why it matters: North Carolina has been a consistently close race, with Trump carrying it by a narrow margin in 2020. It’s a critical state for Republicans, and early results will set the tone for the night.

How it compares to polling before Election Day: According to polling from FiveThirtyEight, Trump led Harris in the state by one point.

Pennsylvania— TRUMP WINS

LATEST UPDATE: In Pennsylvania, 95% of precincts are reporting, and Trump is leading with 51% of the vote to Harris’s 47%. Just before 2:30 a.m. ET Wednesday, the AP called the state for Trump.

Electoral votes: 19

Why it matters: As part of the “blue wall,” Pennsylvania has a significant number of electoral votes and was key in the last few elections. Biden won here by about 80,000 votes in 2020, but Trump won the state in 2016. According to NBC, both Trump and Harris have spent more money in Pennsylvania than any other state, and both made numerous campaign stops there, including Trump’s viral McDonald’s drive-thru moment.

How it compares to polling before Election Day: According to polling from FiveThirtyEight, Trump and Harris were tied in the state at an exact 50-50 split.

Wisconsin—Trump leading, 92% of precincts reporting

LATEST UPDATE: Trump leads Wisconsin with 51% to Harris’s 47% of the vote, and 92% of precincts reporting.

Electoral votes: 10

Why it matters: Known for tight races, Wisconsin has been fiercely contested in recent elections. Biden’s win here in 2020 was narrow, making it a top priority for both campaigns in 2024.

How it compares to polling before Election Day: According to polling from FiveThirtyEight, Harris led Trump by 1 point in Wisconsin.
