Couple who met at strip club raise kids on active volcano after ditching city life – The Mirror US
A couple who met in a strip club now call the wild jungle their home, living off-grid on an active volcano and raising their children away from modern city life.
Viral sensation Zoe has been capturing everyone's attention with snippets of her life. She and her family reside in a rustic cabin, breed birds for food, and use a bucket instead of a conventional toilet.
The adventure began when Zoe and her beau Brian said farewell to Nevada in favour of Hawaii to construct their own home from the ground up. Brian, who shares two children with Zoe, declared: "The whole goal the entire time was to be able to buy some land and build our own house and kind of live self-sustainably."
With a helping hand from friends, the duo crafted their very own home, turning to solar power and rainwater for their energy needs. They breed numerous animals and revel in consuming fruit plucked straight from the jungle. But while it may sound like a paradise to some, Zoe concedes she has faced criticism for her choice to let her three-year-old and seven-year-old grow up on a volcano.
Sharing her thoughts on Truly TV, Zoe expressed: "Living on an active volcano might seem kind of… stupid, I guess you could say, but I feel safer here than I do in the city."
Zoe, a cancer survivor, asserts that their property has everything they need. They have a large refrigerator, a cooker, a radio, and a coffee maker. Their home also includes a spacious kitchen, living area, bathroom, and bunk beds. However, Zoe admits this lifestyle isn't for everyone, stating: "Whenever we have visitors they kind of look at me like oh we have to use a bucket."
Brian added: "We have every appliance that everybody has in a standard home, we just don't pay the utility companies," Zoe has previously posted videos of her trips to Costco for supplies, which is a two-hour walk from their property.
The couple has had to work on the land to cover lava tubes and ground cracks to ensure the safety of their family. She said: "I think a lot of people are very animated when they think about volcanoes and they think that there must be lava everywhere."
The pair are also 'unschooling' their children, Zaina and Isla – a method that allows the children to learn what they want. Zoe says that she believes their lifestyle could negatively impact her kids or anyone who is "losing sight of the message – and that message is sustainability".
Zoe, who shares insights into her lifestyle on TikTok, added: "I feel really good about this life. I wouldn't trade it for the world." She acknowledges receiving mixed reactions since her videos gained popularity on social media. "Living like this would depress me," one person remarked on her TikTok page.
Critical voices emerged on YouTube, where a commenter noted: "Setting your children up for failure, what's going to happen when they get older and have to live in the real world, how will they get a Job or know how to live their own lives if something happens to you or your husband."
A different individual criticized and said: "Her kids are going to be ignorant."
Another concerned parent pointed out: "There are so many reasons school is important for growing brains." Yet, some view her choices favorably, with one saying the lifestyle seems "whimsical".
On TikTok, envy was expressed by a user commenting: "I'm so jealous." "So interesting," said another.
An observer complimented Zoe and wrote: "You look so free despite the hard work you put in the have this life."
