'My neighbor wants to name her baby after her favorite animal – I can't stop laughing' – The Mirror US
A pregnant woman has left her neighbour in hysterics, following a rather unconventional baby name suggestion.
Baby names are often a point of contention. For many parents, picking something 'unique' is the prime focus, while others opt for a more 'ordinary' title to steer clear of bullying at school.
But one particular case has now polarized the internet, with a pregnant woman looking to name her child after an animal. Although your mind may be jumping to the likes of Kitty, Bear or Raven, this wasn't the case at all.
'My baby's initials spell a rude acronym – but I don't want to change his name'
'I have huge regrets over my daughter's name – it's pretty but divisive'
Instead, it's claimed that 'Lioness' was the mother's top choice, inspired by her favorite big cat. The admission however, was actually posted by her neighbour who, rightly or wrongly, couldn't stop laughing.
Posting anonymously to Reddit, they wrote: "The neighbours are expecting their first kid, and they found out they were having a girl, so they started thinking of names that mean "lioness". Of course there's the logical ones like Leonie, Leona, etc.
"But she dead— suggested straight up Lioness as a name. With the straightest face."
The writer claims their neighbour's lion fascination doesn't just stop at baby names either. Turns out, she has three lioness tattoos too, as well as a big cat bumper sticker on her car. "She's obsessed with everything lionesses," the writer continued.
"And I mean lionesses like female lions, not like the soccer team… I overheard the conversation and was trying to stop myself from laughing." Later they also clarified: "I mean, I LOVE lionesses and in my opinion they look nicer and more majestic than male lions, so I can agree with her on that.

"[But] thank god her husband was like 'ehhh, I don't know about that, seems a little out there'."
The anonymous post has since racked up countless comments online, with many quick to make jokes about the unusual name suggestion. One person joked: "Do you think the doctor will hold the baby up and start singing 'Circle of Life' right after delivery?", as someone else chimed in: "Poor kid. Ariel, meaning 'Lion of God,' was RIGHT THERE. So was Lea, a feminine form of Leo. Heck, name her Kiara, after Simba’s daughter from The Lion King."
Another also confessed: "I have a favorite lioness at my local zoo named 'Mandessa'. I've joked about naming the next cat after her but wouldn’t do it to a child and even naming a kid after my favorite lioness would be such a step up from naming a child lioness."
