Weird SEC Championship stat is bad news for Georgia football – Dawn of the Dawg
Saturday will be the seventh time that Georgia football has played for an SEC Championship under Kirby Smart. And while that is an amazing feat considering this is only Smart's ninth season in charge of the program, Georgia's record in the SEC Championship game is not great.
In the six SEC title games under Smart, Georgia is an abysmal 2-4. This includes only winning one of their last five appearances in this game. That is not what you expect to see from a program like Georgia.
But to take it even a step further, Georgia's record when ESPN's College GameDay is in Atlanta for the SEC Championship game is even worse.
Kirby Smart is 0-4 when College GameDay chooses to come to the SEC Championship Game.
How we feeling?
After reading this stat, one would probably hope that GameDay will not be in Atlanta on Saturday. But unfortunately, College GameDay will be at this game just like they were last season.
This may not seem like a big deal because the GameDay crew has no impact on the game whatsover. But it is a really strange coincidence that the four losses Georgia has suffered in the SEC Championship game under Smart have all come when GameDay is at the game.
So while there is no one to blame but Georgia for all of those losses, it would be nice to put an end to this losing streak.
Also, for as dominant as Georgia has been in the last half decade or so under Smart, the SEC Championship game is one hurddle Smart and UGA have struggled to overcome. So hopefully that ends this weekend with another win against Texas, when a lot of the country is doubting Georgia once again.
And hopefully the GameDay crew picks Texas to win, because that seemed to go very well for UGA last time.
