A ‘river troll’ spotted in Mississippi, a pair of potential Nessie sightings, and a ghostly mist that terrified a cat were among the strange and unusual stories to cross our desk this past week.
After a quiet start to the year with nary a Nessie sighting for nearly three months, the legendary monster of Loch Ness came roaring back in a big way this past week. First, a documentary filmmaker spotted a rather sizeable unidentified creature emerge from the water at the iconic Scottish site. The curious encounter wound up becoming the first official Nessie sighting of 2022 after it was determined that a previous report that had received the lofty distinction was actually that of a pair of paddle boarders and not the famed cryptid. Apparently not one to rest on its laurels, Nessie seemingly popped up again just a few days later when a tourist on a cruise liner spotted something anomalous that was picked up by the boat’s sonar.

This past week saw a pair of particularly compelling videos which may have provided a glimpse of some serious high strangeness. First, a spooky piece of home security footage from Canada shows a cat being terrified by an unsettling mist that seemingly emerged from an old doll and frightened the feline so badly that the animal actually scurried off and hid behind a table. Then, a pair of mystified witnesses in Israel filmed a truly baffling UFO said to have been hovering over the city of Hadera. The curious object somewhat resembles a lightning bolt sitting stationary in the sky and, as of now, remains unidentified.

In the weird and wild world of the paranormal, sightings of Bigfoot, UFOs, or ghosts are somewhat par for the course, but this past week saw a wholly unique creature make headlines by way of a photograph allegedly showing a ‘river troll‘ lurking in the waters off the coast of Mississippi. Snapped by an individual living on a houseboat in the area, the eerie image was purportedly taken following an encounter with the bipedal entity that was said to have sported bulging eyes and a pair of horns atop its head. While the veracity of the picture and its origin story are up for debate, if the creature featured in the photo is real, it’s definitely not something you’d want to encounter while exploring the swamp waters of Mississippi.
