Raiders TE Bowers sets pair of rookie records
NEW ORLEANS — Las Vegas Raiders rookie tight end Brock Bowers broke a pair of rookie pass-catching records in the Raiders’ game at the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Bowers first surpassed Pro Football Hall of Famer Mike Ditka’s 63-year-old record for most receiving yards in a season by a rookie tight end with a 13-yard catch late in the second quarter that surpassed Ditka’s mark of 1,076 receiving yards set in 1961 for the Chicago Bears.
Bowers had 1,105 receiving yards on the season at halftime.
In the second half, Bowers caught his fifth pass of the day for an 11-yard pickup. That gave him 106 catches on the season, one more than Puka Nacua had for the Las Angeles Rams last season to set a new record for most catches in a season by any rookie.
