New Jersey drones mystery takes new twist as they're filmed 'in search formation' over ocean – The Mirror US

As 2025 draws to a close, the puzzle of the dozens of drones over New Jersey remains unsolved. Witnesses report that many of the mysterious objects seem to be "coming in from the ocean".
Garrett Openshaw, an employee at the Asbury Hotel on the Jersey shore, alleges he saw a dozen "car-sized" drones flying in formation. YouTuber CJ Faison took it upon himself to investigate the theory that these unexplained objects were originating from the open sea, and rented a boat to uncover the truth.
He hired a yacht from his friend Ricky just before Christmas, stating: "We're going to run up and down the coastline all night long and we're going to see just what we can find." It didn't take him long – within about 10 minutes of leaving the New Jersey shore, he spotted five inexplicable lights in the sky.
Considering the official explanation that "mass hysteria" and misidentified aircraft account for many of the reported sightings, CJ cross-referenced the objects he saw with the Flight Radar app. The app provides the locations of civilian and most military aircraft nearby, but no listed flights were in the area at the time.
Among his numerous peculiar sightings was a small, bright speck of light, seemingly an object at a very high altitude, that moved "back and forth" in the sky.
The vessel's skipper, Ricky, was skeptical about the presence of a helicopter flying "a chopper that high" over the open ocean in the early hours, despite the craft displaying the green and red lights required by the FAA. And CJ suggested that these mysterious crafts are using the lights as a disguise to mimic ordinary planes.
"They're trying to blend in with planes, that's the whole stigma," CJ said. He managed to film several crafts moving in what seemed to be a search formation before aligning into a "grid-like" pattern and heading towards land.
CJ noted: "I think it was around five, or 5:45am, it looked like a bunch of drones headed into New Jersey. They were in grid-like patterns…it almost looks like they were coming in at a flight pattern straight towards the shore and then they would either go one way or the other."
While observing the mystery lights, CJ also kept an eye on Flight Radar to cross-reference the "UAPs" with any known commercial flights but found no matches.
Interestingly, Flight Radar did show him the path of a US Air Force C17, seemingly on a similar quest to locate the drones.
CJ claims he's not the only one witnessing drone swarms off the New Jersey coast. He explained: "There was Coast Guard boat doing the same thing we're doing right now, a couple of nights ago, and that is when they had a Coast Guard boat surrounded by about 20 drones UAPs whatever you want to call them."
While he doesn't have a definitive explanation for what's happening over New Jersey, he suspects that the authorities are withholding information: " I just think it's I something's being covered up," CJ suggests, "something's not being said."
