Two bloodthirsty pitbulls attack Detroit woman and strangers who try to help – The Mirror US

Two pitbulls reportedly attacked a Detroit woman on New Year's Eve, along with a couple of strangers who tried to help her, sending her to the hospital where she remained throughout the holiday.
The victim, identified only as Ashley, was ambushed Tuesday morning around 10:40 a.m. while walking to her local liquor and convenience store near Plymouth Road and Meyers Road. Ashley was left scratching her head as to why two random and dangerous canines were out and about. "That could’ve been a child and not me, cause kids walk to the store all the time," she said. “It was like why me, like why did it happen to me?”
The large pitbulls appeared out of nowhere and instantly began sinking their teeth into the unsuspecting victim, according to her. Her loud screams for help attracted a couple strangers as she tried to scale a fence to escape. The wild dogs then turned their attention to the strangers and quickly attacked them. Ashley said one man sustained a head injury amid the chaos.
“Everybody that was trying to help me got injured. One guy's head got ripped. I’m really appreciative for them, because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be here," she said.
Police eventually arrived on the scene and one of the pitbulls was shot dead while trying to attack an officer. The other dog was captured by animal control and later euthanized, according to police. Ashley was transported to the hospital where she was treated for dog bites on her hand, arm and leg. Her hand appeared to be bandaged after she was discharged.

According to Crystal Perkins, Detroit's General Services Department director, the pooches escaped from their owner's yard on Steele Avenue. The responding officers uncovered this while following the dogs who were seen tearing a stray cat apart. The victim demanded that police punish the owner accordingly for his gross negligence, claiming his pets were a threat to the community. The owner has since been contacted by police who issued multiple citations in the wake of the attack.

In a statement Friday, Perkins said: "DACC records show no history of calls or past incidents with these dogs or their owner. The owner was issued four citations per dog for no dog license, no proof or failed to vaccinate for rabies vaccination, failed to provide a leash and or responsible person for the dog off owner’s property and not preventing nuisance of dangerous or potentially dangerous behavior. The two victims have been released from the hospital. Anyone with information is asked to call Detroit Police Department."
