Major city named UFO sighting capital of the UK – Express

UFOs are spotted across the UKA major city has been named the UFO sighting capital of the UK.
From ‘rocket-type objects’ to ‘cigar-shaped craft’, the skies have been filled with unidentified flying objects (UFOs) spotted from various points across the country.
London has the all-time most UFO sightings in the UK with 280, according to SlotsWise. Manchester is in second, with 88. Birmingham and Glasgow also feature prominently, with 73 and 51 sightings, respectively.
For instance, in May 2021 an “orange glowing orb” was seen in London, “travelling silently at a steady pace from North West to West”. And in June 2022, an oval-shaped object was spotted.
Greater Manchester topped the list of counties with the most UFO sightings, with a total of 54 documented sightings, followed by Greater London (52), Cheshire (37), and West Sussex (34).

Ellis explained: “Despite progress being made in recent years to de-stigmatise the topic, there is still an air of trepidation when approaching the subject as the fear or ridicule is very prevalent.
“There were almost 500 reported sightings in the UK last year, with likely many times that number going unreported showing that there is a genuine concern around unidentified phenomena being seen across the country.”
The year with the most UFO sightings was 2009, with 286 spotted across the UK. 2024 was a relatively quiet year in comparison, with 89 sightings over the year.

Meanwhile, Professor Brian Cox expressed his thoughts on Twitter, saying: “It would be great if true – it would take a bit of the pressure off our civilisation if we weren’t the only means within the Milky Way by which the Universe understands itself.
“Sadly, as of today, I still feel that pressure, so can we perhaps focus on not messing our world up rather than hoping that, to paraphrase Sagan, someone will float down to save us from ourselves.”
