Dublin has a new tourist attraction that has left one or two people scratching their heads.
Someone has put a load of cherry tomatoes on a bridge in Drumcondra Road which goes over a canal and railway line.
It has now been nicknamed Cherry Tomato Bridge and people have been flocking to see it.
The fruit had originally frozen to the bridge wall thanks to a recent cold snap, but even though the ice has now thawed it doesn’t look like the tomatoes are going anywhere.
Even more puzzlingly, some of the tomatoes were still whole, while others had been sliced in half, and there were even some larger sliced salad tomatoes and sachets of ketchup amongst the display.
Several posts about the fruit have gone viral on TikTok and X, with some suggesting the bridge is now ‘Dublin’s hottest attraction’ and encouraging people to make the ‘pilgrimage’ to see it.
People have obviously embraced the new attraction, with the bridge renamed to ‘Cherry Tomato Bridge’ on Google Maps and labeled as both a shrine and a historical landmark.
It’s received several reviews now, many five stars, including one which read: ‘A truly special place. There’s nowhere on earth like it. You can just feel the magic.’
Another said: ‘Sometimes, there are cultural experiences that stop us in our tracks, leaving us breathless. This is one of them. Couldn’t recommend it more.’
Pilgrims to the site have even been adding more cherry tomatoes to the display, leaving notes including the oddly heartwarming ‘you’re looking ripe today!’, and gathering around while singing That’s Amore by Dean Martin.
The entire affair has echoes of a mystery plaguing Nottinghamshire, where a plate of peeled bananas has been dropped at the same spot every month for at least a year, to the bafflement of locals.
