Man makes startling discovery as he lifts up floorboards of his new home – The Mirror US
A man has solved a neighborhood mystery after making a chilling discovery under his floorboards.
He explained how he moved into a new home previously owned by a "grumpy old guy" who would always complain about the children in the neighborhood.
Due to his 'spiteful' behaviour towards the youngsters trying to entertain themselves by playing games in the street, he got a bad reputation for himself. Taking to Reddit, the man explained: "We're currently doing some work on our house we’ve recently moved into.
"It used to belong to this grumpy old guy we knew, when we were kids this guy hated us playing on the street, if we were on our bikes he’d try throw sticks at us, swear at us, typical old guy stuff, he just didn’t like people and we never really knew why.
"We ended up hearing this rumor when we were kids that the reason he was such an arse was because he got sacked from his job for stealing. It was rumored he worked in a shampoo factory – prompting the kids to nickname him 'The Shampoo Baron'.
"The shampoo baron always denied stealing from this company but the name stuck," he added. "Fast forward 20 years and the shampoo baron is sadly no longer with us, his house goes up for sale and I end up buying it.
"I start to run some new cables under the living room floorboards and what do I find? Five bin liners full of dry shampoo spray bottles, and a carrier bag full of perfumes of some brand I’ve not heard off until now. So it would turn out that the rumors about the shampoo baron were in fact true."
Wanting to know whether anyone else has made an odd discovery in their home, he asked users: "I wonder what other people have found under their floorboards?" Commenting on his post, one user said: "I found a photo of myself under a strangers floorboards. I used to fit central for a living, I was lifting some floorboards in a house a couple of towns over.
"When I lifted the boards there was a photo of me playing rugby. Well, the photo was of the homeowners son. I was just making a tackle. Yes, I absolutely s*** myself." Another user added: "Empty packet of Tudor Crisps, with a competition on there, dated from 1976."
A third user said: "I found a loose section of floorboard just inside the main bedroom of our house. I lifted it up and there was an envelope sellotaped to the underside of it. Unfortunately it was empty, but I guess the previous owners used it to hide cash. Oh, and beneath it was a VHS copy of Depeche Mode 101."
