Airbnb host says woman's ominous message about husband in booking has her 'worried' – The Mirror US
An Airbnb host was baffled by a cryptic note attached to a booking.
Anyone familiar with Airbnb knows that you can send a message to your hosts when booking a stay, typically to request specifics or inform them of your estimated arrival. But for one host, a message she received from a woman booking on behalf of her husband left her utterly bewildered.
The Airbnb host, Donatella, took to TikTok to express her confusion, questioning whether she was overthinking the customer's words. She said she didn't think much of the booking when it first came in, but the more she thought about it the more she realised there was a "hidden meaning" behind what her client had written.
Woman clears out late dad's house and finds 'ominous' note with family secret
'I've got a common name – but baristas can somehow never get the spelling right'
In her TikTok, Donatella recounts: "When the request first came through I honestly didn't think anything of it. It was a very average request. But afterwards, their message kept replaying in my head and I was like, 'Why would they make sure I knew that?'"
She was puzzled by the wife's specific point that her husband would be lodging solo, stating: "Basically, it was a wife booking on behalf of her husband, and she was saying that the booking was for him for work. Absolutely fine, maybe she does this, she books his travel stuff. But she put in the message that he would be staying there alone."
At first, Donatella thought the woman was simply confirming that the booking was only for her husband. However, since Airbnb already provides such details, Donatella concluded that the message had a hidden meaning – that the woman suspected her husband might bring someone else to the property to cheat.
She continued: "Part of my brain was just like, 'Wait is this person telling me that I should only be expecting their husband and basically if they show up with someone else that like … that's why she's telling me? ' Honestly, it's so far stretched but in reality, because they've said that to me, if I did see someone else and I did see a female, you're getting snaked so fast. I would message her."

Donatella had to re-read the booking multiple times to make sure she wasn't misinterpreting, but believed the message was "very short and very clear". Commenters on the post commended Donatella for supporting the woman, but some suggested she might be overanalyzing the situation.
One commenter mentioned that they had previously clarified a solo booking for their partner to avoid startling a female host with a lone male arrival.
One user was adamant, declaring: "She 100% suspects he's cheating!" Meanwhile, another shared a similar tale: "We had this with an Airbnb guest – I left a review for him saying he and his girlfriend were great guests, and he contacted me immediately asking me to retract it. Turns out it wasn't his girlfriend. I refused."
