Mavs' Irving helped off after suffering knee sprain
Dallas Mavericks star guard Kyrie Irving was ruled out of Monday’s game against the Sacramento Kings after suffering a left knee sprain, the team announced.
Irving bumped knees with Kings center Jonas Valanciunas while being fouled on a drive and went to the ground in pain. He was able to stay in the game and sink two free throws before Dallas called a timeout.
Irving was then helped off the court and appeared not to be able to put any weight on his injured leg.
The injury is the latest blow for a Mavs team already missing Anthony Davis, Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford and Caleb Martin for an extended period.
Irving, 32, who played in his ninth All-Star game last month, entered Monday averaging 25 points and 4.7 assists.
