Costco customer slams self checkout policy over hidden rule – The Mirror US
An angry Costco customer has been venting their frustration after an encounter at the self-checkout they say turned unexpectedly sour.
The disgruntled shopper complained that a store employee took over the register when they brought 20 items to the self-checkout, despite there being no posted item limit in the store.
The customer stated: "My store doesn't have a posted item limit, so I figured it was okay."
However, the Costco worker reportedly informed them that the store had set the limit at the "manager's discretion."
The Redditor claimed that the employee kept mentioning the purchase limit while commandeering the self-checkout machine.
Over the past year, customer satisfaction at Costco has seen a slight decline – though still remains among the top companies, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI).
Neil Sanders, the managing director of GlobalData's retail division, suggested that the retailer's self-checkout policies might be contributing to this slip. Sanders previously told DailyMail.com: "Costco is extremely successful and its above average growth rates don't reflect the lower satisfaction rating."
However, the company's introduction of self-checkout registers has been met with considerable annoyance. Numerous commenters took to Reddit to share their experiences with the brand's registers.
"Self checkout at Costco is an unnecessary frustrating experience," one angry shopper wrote. "I've skipped it for years now because of it. Somehow I always get yelled at."
