Eagles trade target adds fuel to fire with Jalen Hurts praise
The Philadelphia Eagles signed Jalen Hurts to a record-breaking contract extension on Monday, and one potential trade target was thrilled with the news.
Arizona Cardinals All-Pro Budda Baker has asked for a trade out of the desert as of last week. Considering the Philadelphia Eagles lost both of their starting safeties this offseason, it makes a lot of sense that they’d be mentioned in trade talks for Baker.
After extending Hurts, however, Philly finds themselves in a bit of a cap crunch. To acquire a player like Baker, Howie Roseman would need to do some salary cap gymnastics, and I’m not sure how flexible he is.
Still, that didn’t stop us from listing Baker as an Eagles trade target just a few days ago. FanSided’s Scott Rogust had the scoop:
“This offseason, the team saw a big exodus of talent, especially on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage, even though they did manage to keep both of their top cornerbacks in James Bradberry and Darius Slay. Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave signed a lucrative deal with the San Francisco 49ers and linebacker T.J. Edwards joined the Chicago Bears. But, there’s also the fact that the Eagles lost both of their top safeties on the depth chart.”
Baker added more fuel to the fire on Monday.
Eagles: Budda Baker praises Jalen Hurts after extension
Budda Baker had plenty to say after Jalen Hurts agreed to his record extension. It’s unclear if it was actually a desperate plea for the Eagles to trade for him, but either way, it’s easy to connect the dots.
Yep, the eyes emojis are out, as they should be. Baker is readily available for the right price and Philly needs secondary help.
Everything about this situation screams “trade for me!”
Obviously there is a long way to go before Baker is packing his bags for Philadelphia, but whether he intended to or not, he got the Eagles attention.
