Why Bella Hadid Skipped the 2023 Met Gala
While Gigi Hadid dressed to catch eyes in a sheer black corset dress at this year’s Karl Lagerfeld-themed Met Gala, her younger sister Bella Hadid decided to sit the evening out. The supermodel wasn’t photographed on the carpet despite being rumored to attend. She did go last year though:
Bella was active on her Instagram Story this morning, reposting a photo taken by Lagerfeld that Gigi shared to her Instagram Story. In the pic, she and Gigi appear together in Fendi clothes. “We love you @karllagerfeld,” Bella wrote. Bella has not yet addressed her absence on her social media.
Bella’s last big public event was in Las Vegas in late March. She celebrated five months not drinking there, too. “Five months alcohol-free,” she wrote over a video of herself in a black plunge dress in a casino.
She spoke more about the decision to stop drinking in January, telling Harper’s Bazaar, “When I stopped drinking a couple months ago, I tried to see how long I could go without drinking. I put a label of six months or a year on my effort. I realized, I just wake up every morning and take it moment by moment. I realized I could have a glass of champagne tonight if I wanted to. I took one sip and immediately looked at my boyfriend. I immediately knew that it didn’t make me feel better. I don’t really care about that glass of champagne, and it didn’t help me at all. It helped my anxiety in so many ways to realize I didn’t want the drink—not telling myself I couldn’t have it.”
