Did Packers give Aaron Rodgers old locker to a Bears fan?

The Green Bay Packers gave Aaron Rodgers locker away, which was expected, of course. However, they could have given it to literally anyone else.

Rather than asking Jordan Love to move over literally one spot, the Packers gave Aaron Rodgers old locker away to Sean Clifford, who they drafted to be Love’s new backup. Clifford, who attended football at Penn State University, wasn’t expected to be drafted at all before Green Bay selected him to fill out their depth chart.

On the surface, there’s nothing wrong with giving a rookie Rodgers’ locker. In fact, that’s not the problem at all. Any other rookie would’ve been fine.

Clifford, however, grew up a huge Chicago Bears fan. In fact, deep down, he probably hates Aaron Rodgers — or at least did as a child in the midwest.

FanSided’s John Buhler summed up the Clifford selection as only he could.

“Clifford seems like a nice and wonderful man, but this is the NFL. If he plays for the Packers, it will be more pitiful than watching Nathan Peterman throw pick-sixes like he is on a Matt Schaub Houston Texans heater of a lifetime. Let’s hope that Love is all you need, Green Bay, because that’s what you got. Gutekunst is spraying canned cheese all over his medium-rare filet mignon.”

That’s…vivid.

Clifford was a fine college quarterback, and he’ll probably be a career backup. However, he was expected to be a UDFA for a reason. Clearly something stood out about his workout in Green Bay, because Clifford’s phone wouldn’t have rung otherwise.

“Sean is a guy that is really intelligent, he’s play a lot of games, he’s got some athleticism, and he’s a natural thrower. All the things we look for in quarterbacks, he possesses,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said.

Alright, Matt. Whatever you say.
