Matt LaFleur’s latest comments hype up Packers fans for Jordan Love

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur knows that Jordan Love is putting in the work with quarterbacks coach Tom Clements this offseason.

If the Green Bay Packers want to stay playoff viable, then Jordan Love will need to step up now.

Love may have played sparingly during his first three NFL seasons out of Utah State, but he was a first-round pick for a reason. His sensational sophomore year quarterbacking the Aggies under Matt Wells certainly made him a lot of money. While the idea of Love has been better than the real thing, he has no choice but to tap into all of his potential this year under Tom Clements’ guidance.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur could not be more impressed with the way Love and Clements are collaborating this offseason.

“Just watching him last year. I think Jordan’s made some huge strides. I really do and I think a lot of it is a credit to Tom, and just, he knows how to train these guys. He knows how to drill them and he’s very, very consistent. He doesn’t sugarcoat anything. He just is matter of fact and I think there’s no doubt.”

Keep in mind that Clements mostly came back to Green Bay to work alongside Aaron Rodgers.

It may not seem like much, but having Clements in the building will be massive for Love’s growth.

Matt LaFleur spoke glowingly about Jordan Love’s rapport with Tom Clements

For a fourth-year quarterback who is still largely unproven at the game’s highest level, having a seasoned position coach wanting to come back is undeniably huge. Clements played a big part in Rodgers’ growth as a passer earlier in his career. He may be getting up there in age, but Clements will be an abundance of resources for Love as he looks to take that next big step in his pro career.

While I fully expect the Packers to pull back this season, I do like the fact that Love is under contract for the next two years. This will afford him enough time to show what he has got. Though replacing a legend who replaced a legend is so incredibly difficult, the same regime who drafted Love out of Utah State remains in Green Bay. They are all-in on him, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Frankly, 2024 is the year I need to see the Packers flourish under Love’s leadership. Keep in mind that the 2008 Packers weren’t anything special in Rodgers’ first season as the starter. Two years later, Green Bay won its most recent Super Bowl. Love is not Rodgers or Brett Favre’s talent, but if he can be what Jeff Garcia was for the San Francisco 49ers, then the Packers may be proven right.

It was bold to pivot off Rodgers, but it may have been time to see what’s Love got to do with it.
