Couple spooked as dog cam captures images of creepy hooded figure 'chasing' their pet – The Mirror

Victoria Hepworth, 35, say there’s ‘just no logical explanation’ for what she and fiancé Joe Shard saw on the camera – and it’s not the only time they’ve been left alarmed
A couple say they were freaked out after claiming they captured a 'floating' figure walking in their home on a 'dog cam'.
Victoria Hepworth was left spooked after dog-sitting her sister's black Labrador Kiwi at their home last week. She spotted a 'weird' person lurking in the back of an image captured by the camera and the pet was seen fleeing from the room in Preston, Lancashire.
The 35-year-old and her fiancé Joe Shard set up a motion sensor security camera in their living room to check if the dog was behaving during the night and decided to watch it back last Thursday. The couple were 'unsettled' to find it had captured the animal appearing to run away from the figure just after 6am.
She said it 'looked like something out of Paranormal Activity' and revealed is not the only worrying incident to have taken place at the property. The communications manager and her 29-year-old fiancé, moved into their 135-year-old home nearly a year ago – but now accept that they're living in a 'haunted house'.
Victoria said: "It was Kiwi's first night here and our first night setting the camera up. The next morning we were checking over it on the app and that's when we saw the picture. We tried clicking to watch the footage, like a Ring doorbell, but the camera just takes a photo of any movement – and this was the first movement it picked up. It was really weird. I wouldn't say either of us particularly believes in ghosts but it looks like it's floating or hovering.
"It felt very odd because it made us think, 'What has been there?'. We were a bit unsettled. It reminded me of Paranormal Activity. We're both from a millennial generation, so we grew up with found footage films like that. That day, Joe went to work and I was working from home looking after the dog. I said to him, 'Cheers for showing me that and then leaving me here all alone and vulnerable.'
"Kiwi didn't bark in the night but, thinking back, maybe we heard whimpering. She slept most of the night in her bed, but here she's obviously running away. She loves the attention to be honest. If it was a friendly ghost I'm sure she'd be happy to play fetch with it.
"I remember on the day we moved in my nephew, who was two years old at the time, and their family puppy were sitting about halfway up the stairs and both of them burst into tears at the exact same time. The dog started whimpering and the baby started crying. They say kids and animals pick up on things, and I thought 'Oh brilliant, we've got a haunted house.' But it's hard to get on the property ladder these days so beggars can't be choosers, can we?"
The pair are now trying to get to the bottom of what exactly the 'dog cam' captured – and are now looking into the history of their old cotton mill home for a possible explanation. Victoria said: "Preston is a mill worker town so it's full of old streets and big terraced houses which belonged to the factory owners back in the day.
"We know the property was built in 1888 and we know who lived in it, so we're trying to see who could possibly have lived here who wouldn't be very happy. We've not done any building work or anything that would disturb anything, so this is completely out of the blue.
"I've always been interested in ghosts. I've lived in Edinburgh and London and I loved going on ghost walks and watching horror films. It's pretty cool more than anything else. I've never had a bad experience – and I don't feel negatively towards the house at all."
Victoria shared the photo on Facebook with many paranormal fans commenting on the 'creepy' shadow the figure appears to cast on the wall. In the Facebook post, Victoria said: "Hello. Bit of a strange one, but my fiancé and I are dog-sitting for my sister and yesterday morning, this white figure appeared on the dog cam.
"Neither of us was awake at this time and no one else lives in the house or has a key. Very odd, especially as it appears to be floating and is so tall. Any suggestions? The house is extremely old, but we haven't ever heard or seen anything before and we have lived here nearly a year. No barking from the dog, but she appears to be agitated."
One Facebook user responded: "First of all I would check your Ring doorbell…to see if this figure has been seen walking along the street or trying to get into all the houses. It's reflecting a shadow off the wall which I didn't think ghosts or spirits do, so my guess is you were burgled." Another commented: "It appears to have a shadow… I think it's an intruder."
But other users think paranormal forces were at play, with one suggesting the house may contain a 'haunted item'. A final added: "Amazing pic and creepy at the same time! It looks like the figure is walking away and since it's on a different plane of existence, it makes it appear very tall or floating. Victoria added: "There was nothing in that room, and we certainly weren't awake. But that's what makes it so interesting. There's just no logical explanation."
