Car expert says drivers should always 'rub a potato on their windscreen' in strange hack – The Mirror

One car expert has shared a simple and unique method to prevent windscreens from fogging – and it requires drivers to rub a potato on their car windows, after cutting it in half
While most adults look forward to winter, this isn't always the case, especially for drivers. When you own a vehicle, annoyingly you have to deal with removing ice or snow from car windows during the freezing months.
The process usually involves using lukewarm water and a sponge to wipe windows until it becomes clear. The situation can be particularly frustrating as it means we end up wasting precious time in the mornings.
However, one car expert has shared a simple and effective trick to prevent windscreens from fogging. The unique method requires drivers to rub a potato on their windscreen, after cutting it in half.
John Clark Motor Group said: “This one really isn’t just an old wives’ tale! Rubbing the cut side of half a potato against the outer surface can make a real difference to your windscreen. Not only can it stop your windscreen from freezing in the winter, but it can also be a huge help when driving in the rain.
“The starch in the potato acts as a barrier between the glass and the air and can help with that all too common issue of your windscreen fogging up, making it hard to see.”
Extreme cold temperatures can cause ice and fog to form on the inside of car windows when the moisture in the car evaporates, condenses on the glass, and freezes.
American channel ‘The Weather Network’ also shared the tip in a viral YouTube clip explaining a potato’s uses. However, the group also made it clear drivers had to rub the potato in their glass the night before a cold spell to take full advantage.
Presenter Mia Gordon explained: “There’s actually some things you can do the night before to prepare yourself and your car to avoid any freezing the next morning."
“Take a potato and cut it in half and then rub it on your car’s windshield. The sugar from the potato will create a barrier over the window that will help prevent ice from forming. The next morning simply rinse and wipe with your wipers.”
