A potential breakthrough in the Amelia Earhart mystery, a ‘supernatural’ house for sale in Thailand, and a New Jersey home hit by a pepperoni prankster were among the weird and wondrous stories to cross our desk this past week.
This past week saw a possible breakthrough in the longstanding mystery surrounding the disappearance of Amelia Earhart as an exhaustive expedition in the Pacific Ocean may have located the famed aviator’s lost plane. Costing a whopping $11 million, the search utilized a specially designed submersible drone to scour an area off the coast of Howell Island, where many believe the pioneering pilot perished. When the data from the sonar scans was later examined, it was discovered that the vehicle picked up a rather peculiar anomaly that appeared to be the shape of a small aircraft. Researchers hope to return to the location later this year to do a literal deep dive and either confirm or dispel the belief that the oddity is, in fact, Earhart’s plane.

A pair of particularly weird crimes wound up making the news this past week, beginning with a bizarre incident wherein a house in New Jersey was vandalized by a pepperoni-wielding troublemaker. Homeowner Heather Dougherty was left scratching her head upon discovering that a mischievous individual had left slices of meat all over her porch and car. While understandably irritated about being targeted, she also expressed some amusement over the sheer weirdness of the pepperoni prank. Meanwhile, staff at a Canadian resort were astounded when a determined gang of sticky-fingered ne’er-do-wells somehow managed to steal a 500-pound taxidermied polar bear from the balcony of one of their buildings.

One of the odder stories we’ve seen in a while popped up in the news this past week by way of Thailand, where a purportedly ‘supernatural’ house was put up for sale. According to the listing, the residence boasts a "strange energy" that manifests itself in the form of a mysterious black hole that occasionally appears on the wall of a bedroom. The odd phenomenon allegedly allows an individual to glimpse into the past, which led homeowner to theorize that it might be some kind of time portal. As if that were not strange enough, he also claims to have had prophetic dreams that contained winning lottery numbers and warnings about difficulties set to befall his family.
