A woman who waited 10 weeks for her new sofa to arrive was left baffled when the delivery looked a lot smaller than she expected – and thousands of people have been left in hysterics by her mistake
A woman was left mortified when she realised why her new sofa was such a bargain.
A couch is often the centrepiece of your living room, but they don't come cheap, and nobody takes buying a new one lightly.
Budget-savvy Pinky Jones was delighted when she managed to get the sofa of her dreams for a bargain price, but when the furniture arrived she was left in hysterics when that all wasn't quite as it had initially seemed with her sofa of choice.
When moved into her new home back in 2020, one of the first pieces of furniture she ordered was a sofa to give the family somewhere to relax.
She found an L-shaped five-seater sofa complete with an ottoman online for an incredible price of £185, saying she hoped it would be big enough for herself, her fiancé Joseph, and the five children to squeeze on to for the time being.
After patiently waiting 10 weeks for it to be delivered by Wayfair, Pinky became a little concerned when Joseph told her the package that had arrived looked a lot smaller than he expected.
"My fiancé was in when it arrived and he said it seemed small, but I thought maybe it needed to be assembled to make shipping easier," she said.
But it wasn't until they unboxed it that Pinky discovered she had accidentally ordered a sofa for toddlers, which was just 22 inches tall – and posed for hilarious photos on the furniture she hoped would fit all seven of them.
"I had to laugh, it's literally a baby sofa," said the property manager from Florida, who was 36 years old at the time. "I would never have dreamed I was buying it for a child.
"I thought it was going to be an actual sofa, big enough for my living room. It didn't say anywhere that it was for a child and it was listed in the living room section on the website.
"It said it seats five so I thought at least the five kids would be able to squeeze on it and me and my fiancé could sit on the beanbags for now.
"I was looking forward to it arriving because we don't have any furniture and I waited ten weeks for delivery. It's annoying because now I have no furniture in my living room but I've had a sad childhood and I've been homeless.
"I've been able to buy my own house now so I've been given too many lemons to complain, I just found it hilarious."
Before returning the sofa, Pinky posed for photos and shared them on Facebook where it quickly went viral, racking up more than 59,000 shares.
She said: "I didn't expect it to go so big. I posted it on Facebook just for my friends and when I came back to my phone it had just blown up. I couldn't believe it."
A donation page was set up to raise money to help the family afford a new sofa after Pinky said they had not received a refund from Wayfair, and they have since surpassed the target after the story was shared on social media.
Wayfair was contacted for comment at the time of original publication.
