Woman convinced David Bowie's face appears at the end of her morning coffee – The Mirror

Giuditta Del Vecchio made herself the hot beverage in her favourite mug but noticed something unusual in the bottom once she had finished
A woman was stunned after she spotted the face of pop superstar David Bowie in her cup of morning coffee.
Giuditta Del Vecchio made herself the hot beverage in her favourite mug, but noticed something unusual in the bottom once she had finished. Upon reaching the end of her hot drink she noticed a familiar face in the remaining coffee grounds left in the bottom of the cup.
Giuditta, who lives in Rome, Italy, did a double take when she recognised the outline of a very famous face looking up at her. In the residue, she noticed what looked like the head of the iconic Ziggy Stardust singer – she could make out Bowie’s eyes, nose, and mouth.
A close inspection even reveals the musician’s trademark lightning bolt makeup covering his forehead and eye. Giuditta could not resist taking a snap of her unlikely discovery and sharing the apparition online with her followers.
Cyndy Collins said: “It kind of looks like David Bowie in his earlier years.” Greta Hendrick agreed, she said: “I see David Bowie.” John Constantine said: “Looks like Bowie with a hot cross bun stuck to his head.” [sic]
Meanwhile it is not just cups of coffee where people have reported seeing strange faces. A woman made headlines last year after spotting Princess Diana's face on a slice of ham. Hattie Osma, from Cheltenham Spa, bought the packet of ham from Tesco to make sandwiches for lunch at work.
After opening the packet and eating the top slice, the 36-year-old noticed what looked like a silhouette of Diana's face staring back at her. Hattie says everyone who has seen the slice of ham has been "really spooked by it", with one colleague at work even offering to buy it from her for £30.
From coffee to ham, to outer space, people have a tendency to see faces in all sorts of strange places. Vladimir Tarasov claims he saw a face “resembling a Picasso painting” in storm clouds on the planet Jupiter.
Vladimir took data from NASA’s Juno spacecraft and processed it, spotting eyes, nose, and mouth in the clouds swirling around the north of the galaxy's biggest planet. While Princess Di and Bowie may be visiting people in their morning coffee and sliced ham, there is one face people have been seeing for centuries.
Jesus has appeared to people in everything from burned toast to cloud formations over the years with people recently claiming to have seen the son of God in a piece of wood. Dozens of faithful Christians flocked to a tree in Poland after a likeness of Jesus Christ appeared on the bark in 2023.
The pattern – which looks like a head with a halo around it – first appeared on the tree trunk in Parczew, Lublin Voivodeship, on May 14, according to local media. And finally Jesus in his infant form was reportedly spotted in a bag of candy by one man in December 2022. Myles Campbell found the “divine” sweet in a bag of chocolate Revels in March 2021.
Myles said he was at home watching a film while munching on a bag of the assorted chocolates when he felt that one had a rather peculiar shape. But when the 38-year-old pulled it out of the bag, he was stopped in his tracks, as he noticed that it resembled a 'wee baby Jesus'.
Whether people are really having divine visitations remains up for debate, but science may have an explanation for all these faces appearing in objects. Pareidolia is the tendency for the human brain to interpret meaning on nebulous visual stimuli – meaning seeing patterns, often faces, in random objects.
Humans are social creatures and our brains are hardwired to recognise faces. A 2022 study found that the part of the brain that deals with facial recognition is activated when people are shown random objects that look a bit like faces – even before the conscious mind begins to process or even receive the information.
