People are just realising 'smart' reason why bottle caps have different colours – The Mirror

When you pick up a bottle of water, the first thing you do is open the cap – but you probably didn’t realise each one has a certain coloured top for a good reason
We all pick up a bottle of water now and then.
It's important to keep hydrated, and it's the go-to option for many people when they're on-the-go. But you've probably never looked at your bottle cap and wondered why it is the colour that it is.
Now, a post has recently gone viral on TikTok after a person realised exactly why bottled water comes with various coloured lids on the top. Turns out, there's a meaning behind each one of them.
The clip, shared by @sasha.mints, revealed a white lid means the water has been "processed", and a green cap means "flavour has been added.". A blue cap means it's "Spring" water, and a black cap means the drink contains alkaline.
Users were shocked to learn of this revelation. One said: "Wow – I had no idea." Meawhile another added: "Oh that's smart – I never knew that!"
A third chimed in: "I had no idea. Now I'll be looking at all the caps." And a fourth commented: "Thank you for this."
A quick Google suggests the story adds up. It's well documented that the bottles are colour-coded, with white being the standard, or "purified" drinking water. Red caps can also signify water is sparkling or carbonated.
This means it's worth checking the caps before you buy anything. If you're particular about what you eat and drink then it's worth keeping tabs on what you're putting into your body.
I you're wondering which is the best option to sip on for the sake of your health, it's said mineral water and alkaline water are the best options. This is because they offer the body essential nutrients.
It turns out there's a lot more to water than meets the eye, so be careful the next time you pick up a bottle at the shop!
