Stranger asks woman 'when she is having kids' and response leaves her horrified – The Mirror
A woman was left dumbfounded after a stranger had seemingly looked ‘hurt’ after their encounter when she shared the reason for her child-free lifestyle with her husband
Remaining child-free is a choice most couples make, despite them being criticised for their decision.
Some couples choose not to have children to prioritise their careers or travelling, but opt to keep their choice a secret from others to avoid judgment. However, one woman openly shared her reasons for a child-free lifestyle with her husband, leading to an awkward exchange with a stranger.
On social media, TikTok content creator and Aussie entrepreneur Karina Irby recalled how a seemingly innocent question about her wedding ring from a woman she met in public quickly turned uncomfortable.
The 34-year-old began by saying: "She goes, 'Oh I see you're married… How old are you?'" Before adding: "I tell her my age and she goes, ''Oh you're getting on. So you must have children?'" She added: "I just go to her, 'No, no kids. Actually, myself and my husband aren't having children'. I swear to god, I saw the blood drain out of her face."
Irby added the woman had quizzed her on what she planned to do with her life before she shared a list of her priorities, which include: "Building my businesses, saving money, spending money on me, holiday and travels, sleeping and relaxing, more time with my husband and absolute freedom."
Karina tied the knot with husband Ryan in October 2022, and the pair mutually decided to keep their marriage child-free. The random woman questioned Irby on whether she would be disappointed by her choices later in life.
Irby revealed the stranger had asked her: "Who's going to take care of you when you're older?" And she responded with: "I would never choose to have children just so I can be taken care of when I'm older. Also having children doesn't guarantee that you are going to get taken care of FYI (for your information). Anyway, I just found the whole thing quite confronting. This happens to me so often you'd think I'd be used to it by now. I upset a stranger because I don't want kids."
Her followers were supportive of her decision, one person wrote: "You're making the best choice. And I'm a mum" Another person chimed in with: "I'm a mum-of-two and I LOVE my kids but I support this 100 per cent. It's your choice." A third simply wrote: "Love this! As a mum-of-six this is great! I don't think we should push women to have babies if they don't want to and those kids suffer with an unhappy mum."
