People in stitches as American calls out 'odd' way Brits end phone calls – The Mirror

Overly polite Brits have been mocked online for a phone call habit we’re probably all guilty of – but many have defended our etiquette, arguing that we’d feel too ‘rude’ if we adopted the American approach
An American living in the UK has called out Brits for our hilarious phone etiquette – but we stand by it.
On the surface, the US and the UK are not too dissimilar. Yes, they say candy instead of sweets, don't know how to make a proper brew – and think everyone is friends with the royal family. But, aside from that, we're quite alike. One big difference is our perpetual desire to never come across as rude: we'll queue for hours, say please and thanks a million times when grabbing a coffee, and say sorry when we've done nothing wrong.
However, one TikTok star who has come from across the pond has garnered hundreds of thousands of views after pointing out how awkward Brits are on the phone, and to be fair, he has a point (not that we'll ever change our ways)…
In a recent video, user Post Christianity said: "One of the big differences I've noticed about British culture is the strange thing they do whenever it's time to say goodbye after a phone call. I first heard this one when my wife was having a chat with her sister and they both go 'bye bye bye bye bye' to each other at the same time. It's almost like this flock of birds doing a mating call – 'bye bye bye bye'."
The user added that in America, most people – especially men – will end a phone call much more succinctly by saying 'alright, late'. But even when he had to call the council about tax in the UK, the employee ended the call by repeatedly saying 'bye bye'.

More than a thousand Brits rushed to the comments section to defend their polite phone call etiquette – with many admitting they'd feel bad for ending a conversation so abruptly. "If someone just said bye once and hung up I'd have to ring them back and ask them why they were mad at me," one person said.
Another agreed, commenting: "Saying bye just once means you're angry with someone." A third added: "We're so awkward when it comes to ending a phone call or conversation in general." While a fourth joked: "Cheers, bye, alright, cheers, thanks, bye."
