'American' climbs 'UK's tallest peak' – but leaves locals fuming with glaring errors – The Mirror

An ‘American’ climber has left Brits reeling after she posted to social media about her trip up ‘the UK’s tallest peak’, which also saw her pay a visit to an ‘independent bakery’ we all know and love
An 'American' climber who claimed to have capped Wales' tallest peak has left locals furious.
Lucy Ronan's Instagram reel showed her trip to Pen y Fan, the tallest peak in south Wales, which she incorrectly dubbed the UK's highest summit – which is actually Ben Nevis in Scotland. But it wasn't just this faux pas that angered viewers – her pronunciation of the mountain's name as well as mentions of a "cute little independent bakery", Greggs, had viewers reeling.
"Everyone said I needed to go up Pen y Fan," she could be heard saying. "This was a really difficult trek you guys, Pen y Fan is the highest mountain in the UK."
She continued: "My grandma's grandma was actually from Llanelli so this place felt really special to me. For lunch, I picked up this sausage roll from this cute little independent bakery in Merthyr Tydfil. Greg did such a great job, I would really recommend it.
"Everyone I spoke to on the walk was really friendly. These English guys even called me a sheep sh*gger. I don't know what that means but it sounded cute."
While the obvious parody was "hitting all the buttons," some were slow to catch onto the joke and the reel quickly made its way to X (formerly Twitter), where it racked up thousands of likes. One user wrote: "Instagram is something else," followed by a crying emoji. Another wrote: "Hahahah class, hitting all the buttons full pelt. Pen why fen haha."
Others said while they enjoyed the satire, they found the clip almost too believable. "i know it’s satire but it’s also believable from an american," one said. Another added: "If you watch all her videos and comments, you’ll know this is sarcasm." A third wrote: "Learning it was satire was bliss, she’s British, you can hear it in the voice once you know, it’s a pretty meh American impression really."
Another wrote: "I know she's joking but all the pronunciations still cause me intense psychic damage." Another user added: "Greg (and his independent bakery) did a great job – hilarious."
