Friday Night Notes: Georgia caps weird week with a statement, Deuce Knight shines – USA TODAY High School Sports

USA TODAY High School Sports’ Friday Night Notes is a weekly football recruiting recap that looks at the latest news from around the country—from the Class of 2025 to ’26 and beyond.
Georgia experienced a loss on the recruiting trail Thursday before picking up wins on and off the field.
Plus, a new updated rankings out of 247Sports, LSU find a new defensive star and Auburn’s quarterback of the future shine in a shootout.
Let’s dive a bit deeper into that in the latest edition of Friday Night Notes.
It was a weird week to be a Georgia Bulldog fan: Thursday saw upsetting news, but Friday and Saturday provided the highest of highs.
On Thursday, the Bulldogs lost a commitment from highly-coveted 2026 quarterback Jared Curtis. However, a day later, elite in-state defensive lineman Elijah Griffin announced his commitment to Georgia over Miami and USC.
The week ended on an even better note as the team traveled to Austin and handled No. 1 Texas 30-15 in front of a packed house and several highly-touted recruits who were in attendance.
247Sports updated its latest rankings last week and the top three players in the country according to the site are quarterbacks.
LSU commitment Bryce Underwood and Ohio State commitment Tavien St. Clair were already the top two players before the update. Now Alabama commitment Keelon Russell has joined the mix, with the Duncanville (Texas) standout ranked No. 3.
Elijah Griffin is the highest-ranked defensive player in the group at No. 4, followed by Ohio State cornerback commitment Devin Sanchez. Coveted defensive lineman Justus Terry is the only player in the newly-minted top-10 not committed.
Currently the state of Auburn football is one of heartbreak and despair The Tigers lost again on Saturday after blowing a fourth quarter lead to Missouri.
Things may seem bleak now, but in a few short months, Deuce Knight will be on campus.

The four-star quarterback, who recently flipped from Notre Dame to Auburn, is touted by most as the future of the program. Knight showed glimpses of what Auburn fans can expect Friday night in George County’s 51-41 win over Hancock. On the night, he was 10-of-16 passing for 329 yards and three touchdowns.
When it was announced that Harold Perkins’ season had ended due to an injury a few weeks back, many likely assumed that the LSU defense was about to take another massive step back. Instead, the Tigers have only improved, and a new star has emerged.
Whit Weeks, a 2023 top-100 linebacker recruit out of Georgia, has exploded on the scene in the last two weeks. In the Tigers’ 34-10 win over Arkansas, Weeks could not be stopped, recording nine tackles, a tackle for loss, a sack, and an interception.
The last two games have seen Weeks account for 27 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, a pair of pass deflections, a forced fumble, and an interception.
