NFL hot seat watch: 5 coordinators who could become head coaches in 2023
With likely more than two head-coaching jobs opening up, here are some of the very best coordinators in the NFL who could be up for leading a team of their own entering next season.
Although it requires packing up some boxes and moving, there are only 32 of these things after all.
With the 2022 NFL regular season winding down, more and more teams are beginning to accept their fates. Some are destined for the postseason, while others need to start thinking about next year, and beyond.
The Carolina Panthers and the Indianapolis Colts have already pulled the plug, but one would expect there will be more than two head-coaching jobs available on Black Monday.
Here are some of the best coordinators who could be in the running to lead a team of their own.

Ken Dorsey
Offensive Coordinator Buffalo Bills
Ken Dorsey is only a first-time coordinator, but his stock is very much on the rise
Eventually, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey will lead a team of his own. It may not be this offseason for a few reasons, but the upward trajectory he is on is certainly there. Dorsey is a former star quarterback at Miami, back when The U was… The U. He played in the NFL for six years in the 2000s before getting into coaching. He was with the Panthers prior to joining the Bills.
The biggest pushbacks to hiring Dorsey as a head coach this offseason are that this is his first year as a coordinator at any level and Buffalo just lost its longtime offensive coordinator Brian Daboll to the New York Giants job only a year ago. Dorsey may be a tad too green to be hired in this cycle, but he will get some interviews. Unless it hits the fan, Dorsey will be an NFL head coach by 2025.
If an NFL team were to hire Dorsey this winter, it would be like hiring their version of Zac Taylor.
