Cowboys debuting a needed new face at WR, but it’s not OBJ

The Dallas Cowboys are getting some receiving help, but not from Odell Beckham Jr.

What’s the hold-up between the Dallas Cowboys and Odell Beckham Jr.? Perhaps it’s that Beckham has seemingly zero interest in playing during the regular season. Or maybe it’s the fact that the Cowboys are evidently concerned about the results of his medicals.

Whatever the case may be, it’s no longer a certitude that the Cowboys are going to land OBJ, though it sure felt like it was when he showed up courtside with a bunch of Cowboys players to a Mavericks game. In fact, it feels like him signing with the Cowboys is now even unlikely.

Dallas, though, still has a receiving need. They’ve done well with a strong running game led by Tony Pollard, but the Cowboys average 217.8 receiving yards per game, the ninth-fewest in the NFL. Every other three-loss or better team ranks 11th-most or higher.

Only one receiver, CeeDee Lamb, has gotten more (111) than 50 targets so far this year. TE Dalton Schultz is the only other player with more than 50 (52).

Thankfully, the Cowboys are finally getting some pieces back, and one of them is a receiving threat for Dak Prescott to take advantage of.

 James Washington set to make Dallas Cowboys debut

After missing the entire season thus far due to injury, James Washington is ready to make his debut for the Cowboys, possibly as soon as Sunday against the Houston Texans in an intrastate game.

His injury was really unfortunate. It was a right foot fracture just as he was coming back from a left foot injury.

Prescott sounds excited about the prospect of finally playing with Washington:

“Over the past couple of weeks, seeing him out there and being able to feel comfortable within himself — his timing — I’m confident in him. I’m sure it’ll be sooner than later,” Prescott said of Washington’s debut.

Equally as optimistic is Lamb:

“I’ve been playing against him since college,” Lamb said. “To see him out here running around in practice — very explosive. He’s your deep-threat guy so just be careful, is all I’m gonna say.”

Fans might want OBJ, but the best thing for the team could be Washington. He’s still a deep-ball threat but younger. and the chemistry has already been bubbling between him and Prescott.
